Guest guest
Hi, when I first saw Dr. Druker on TV, I believe it was with this child , and how well the child did at first on Gleevec. Shortly after that I flew to Portland and was accepted into the trial. Meetings were held, as I recall on a Mon., maybe once a month? They were to get people together and discuss their progress etc. on the drug. The only meeting I went to was the one and his father attended, and I will never forget it. This little boy was so sweet and courageous, and it was so wonderful to see that the drug was helping him. What a tragedy it was when he did not make it, and how great was Dr. Druker to give him a chance at life. Dr. Druker was truly a pioneer for risking his reputation doing something he knew might possibly fail and effect his entire career. But in truth, it did not effect his career, I think the fact that he gave it his best only enhanced his career. C. were you there that day? I have often wondered, as you and I entered the trial at the same time, and never met, if you and I could not have been sitting in the same room and not known it. And if you were there, I am sure, like myself, it is a memory one could never forget. Hats off to Dr. Druker, and lifetime prayers for little and his family. a (Bobby) Doyle Brecksville, Ohio, USA DX 05/1995 Interferon/9 weeks/hydroxyurea/5 years 02/2000 - Gleevec Trial/OHSU 06/2002 - Gleevec/Trisenox Trial/OHSU 06/2003 - Gleevec/Zarnestra Trial/OHSU 04/2004 - Sprycel Trial/MDACC, CCR in 10 months #840 - Zavie's Zero Club 09/2006 - out of CCR 04/29/08 - XL228 trial/U of Michigan 01/09/ - PCR 5.69 02/13/09 - XL228 trial ended due to side effects o4/13/09 - Ariad Trial U of Michigan 09/09/09 - PCR 0.017 04/13/09 - Ariad trial at U. of Michigan 09/09/09 - PCR 0.017 04/13/09 - Ariad trial, U. of Michigan 09/08/09 - PCR 0.017 From: Wayne Mielke <tinman1939new@...> Subject: [ ] Link to Touching Opinion Piece in Today's WSJ Date: Tuesday, October 6, 2009, 8:51 AM http://online. wsj.com/article/ SB10001424052748 7032980045744551 12945265236. html?mod= googlenews_ wsj
Guest guest
Thank you for the link Wayne. I first met Dr. Druker in November 2000 after failing Interferon. He was everything that McCaffry described in his tribute to Dr. Druker on the occasion of the Lasker-DeBakey Clinical Medical Research Award. I also recall those Monday meetings when Dr. Druker and his team met with the patients who were there that day. I vividly remember meeting C in person after many months on the internet. It was special. All these awards are merely a prelude to him winning the Nobel prize for medicine.
