Guest guest
U go girl! I know where u r coming from Sharon Sent via BlackBerry by AT & T [ ] cancer donations Hi guys, I am really ticked off at this gal who called and asked me to make a donation to breast cancer. I told her I would see what I could do, and she turned me over to some gal who thanked me for my pledge of $20.00. I explained i had not promised that amount, to put it in the mail , I would see what i could do. Today the first gal called to find out why she had not received my pledge of $20.00. Once again I explained, I had not pledged that amount. I also told her I had just donated $100.00 to the American Cancer Society in memory of a dear friend that had just passed away. She then proceeded to tell me that my $20.00 I had pledged, would go only to breast cancer.....now I was really ticked off, and told her the least she could do was say thank you for the $100.00 donation, not insist on me donating more................now let me tell you how petty I am. I typed a letter, stating just what I have said here, plus the fact that I have personally battled cancer for over 14 years, and I have personally raised over $18,000.00 for the LLS, and perhaps they should instruct their telemarketers, or volunteers on manerisms, and not try and make people feel bad about not donating what they think is a proper donation. I also stated Make a Wish wants money, Jerry's kids want money, and there is a limit on how far you can stretch a social security check. I guess what really burned me up is the fact that they put the dollar amount on my donation! So, I stapled the letter I wrote, to the form they sent, and sent it back to them, without a donation! and I hope that gal got her butt chewed out !! There, now I feel better, thanks. Tomorrow I go in for a blood transfusion , hgb is 8.8, gee, do ya think that could be part of my attitude???? a (Bobby) Doyle Brecksville, Ohio, USA DX 05/1995 02/2000 - Gleevec Trial/OHSU 06/2002 - Gleevec/Trisenox Trial/OHSU 06/2003 - Gleevec/Zarnestra Trial/OHSU 04/2004 - Sprycel Trial/MDACC, CCR in 10 months #840 - Zavie's Zero Club 09/2006 - out of CCR 04/29/08 - XL228 Trial/ U.of Michigan 06/02/08 - CCR ( in 4 weeks) 02/13/09 - XL trial ended due to side effects 04/13/09 - New Trial, Ariad / U. of Mich./ Dr. Talpaz
Guest guest
You go girl... what attitude? Most of those cold call places are phony, just scams to get your money. We are always getting news alerts her in the Los Angeles area warning people to be sure they know their charity. The way these people handled you on the phone is a dead give-a-way... phony as a $3 bill. Real charities have a whole lot more class. Guest guest
--- Hi Bobby: That letter you sent was great. You have no idea anymore of who is trying to scam who or if they really belong to a legitimate charity. The person that called you, did they say they were from American Cancer Society? I get so many things in the mail, and I used to give a few dollars when they would send address labels or calendars. I just cannot afford to support all these people, and they are never satisfied. My mailbox is full everyday. I give my support where I want to, and make sure they are legitimate. Guest guest
Bobby, Wow! How rude...sounds like aggressiveness and emotional blackmail is this gal's way of " fundraising " ...although on second thought, perhaps the society sets goals for the folks on their phone banks and she was way behind her goals? Either way, not cool! You will remember this with a bad taste in your month forever! Sorry to hear about needing a transfusion today! :-( Onward and Forward! Guest guest
AAARRRGGHH! I had a nearly identical conversation with a canvasser yesterday -- very nice fella, but absolutely fixed on that business of " your $20 pledge. " I couldn't believe how long I had to stay on the phone with him before he finally got the message and hung up with a cheerful, " God bless you " ! From: bethgalliart@...
