Guest guest
Dear Dory, Some people have no heirs to leave their estates to and they could certainly use the money to help make their lives easier. Reverse Mortgages are not for everyone, but if you need hard, cold cash, it is the way to go if you are in need. The couple I mentioned lived their lives to the fullest and their children didn't care if they had a Reverse Mortgage, but when they passed away, they bought the house back. Some children don't really deserve having a parent make so many sacrifices and then do nothing for them when they are older. They don't deserve to inherit anything. If I have to, I will spend my children's inheritance when there is a need. They don't care if I leave them anything, they just want us to be happy and comfortable. It's just something I posted as an alternative if someone was in real need. 75% is better than nothing. Some need money to fix up their houses with a new roof and that is the ideal way for them to go about it. When I was a volunteer for several charities, I saw how the elderly lived first hand and their children were not there to help them, in fact they used them, to use their utilities and their washer and dryers and even raided the refrigerator. They didn't own the home they lived in, HUD picked up the tab. They couldn't get food stamps because their children had forged their names and had gotten food stamps for themselves, so I brought them food to be sure they had something to eat. I knew their married children were there, too, because I saw them hiding in the bedroom. One old couple hid their groceries in the garbage can and kept it in the house. We have to take all kinds of twists and turns in life and the elderly are the most vunerable to be cheated by their own family.
