Guest guest
I had eye pain and broken blood vessels almost monthly when I was on gleevec. Haven't had those symptoms on sprycel. However, the first few weeks on sprycel my eyes felt scratchy. That was July and now my eyes feel fine. I am having way fewer side effects on sprycel. I have no more middle of the night leg cramps, I think my eyes look less swollen, no quesiness after taking the drug, and I have been able to rid myself of acid reflux drug(which I could not miss). I have lost a few pounds. So far so good and more importantly my bloodwork looks much better. Bmb next month. I started Sprycel in August 09.I have no visible swelling of the eyes now but I have terrible eye pain.It gets worse the longer I am on Sprycel(100mg).I did see a Optho a couple months ago while I still had vision Insurance. The Optho said I had a stigmatism and some far sightedness but all else was fine.I got a pair of glasses for reading.I am diabetic and it is controlled but they did check for glucoma and dilated them and did the pressure test and everything..All seems ok.My eye pain is getting worse daily.I get occassional headaches.I had a brain MRI done and nothing was seen.I take Lasix to help with retention.I have gained 30 pounds since starting Sprycel and each day I see a gain on the scale despite dieting(I have a lapband over GAstric Bypass )So I have a very small stomach. > > Is eye PAIN normal with Sprycel? > Why would it be getting worse daily? Any ideas what I can do?My CML DR.says it is from the Sprycel.Drops don't help at all.I get some relief if I keep my eyes closed but I can't get much done with my eyes closed all day.Norco and M.S Contin does nothing for the pain..I have seen 4 Drs and no one has a clue except blame Sprycel.Do I have to live with this pain?Any suggestions appreciated..Thanks in advance for any help.. > SharonS >
Guest guest
You are absolutely describing my experience with eye bleeds on gleevec. I did get them in both eyes - once at the same time. When gleevec failed me (I found out in June) I had the worse eye bleed and the pain lasted for a couple of days. I have always been on Gleevec, and just the past year I have had pain behind my eyes. Sometimes in the left and sometimes in the right. Sometimes its a sharp pain. I have had eye exams, and they have not found anything unusual. I have however had 3 eyebleeds this past year, and always in the right eye. One very bad one, and the other ones were less severe. Once I got the eyebleed, I got pain relief in the eye. It seems like some type of pressure in the blood vessels. The last one I had gave me a terrible sharp pain before it happened. I have gained a lot of weight on the Gleevec. There has to be something to all these drugs that must have a similarity in a lot of ways. I just live with it, but it does scare you when it happens. I wonder if anyone else has any feedback on this problem SUE
Guest guest
Hi Beverly: Sorry you went through that eye problem like me, but I was glad to see someone else had it too. I was thinking all sorts of crazy things, and my husband said that he thought it was the Gleevec also. I questioned it because I have been on Gleevec for over 8 years before I got my first eyebleed. Some of my other problems have gotten better. Sue Hi: I read the posts on the eye pain, and I have to say that I am not on Sprycel. Guest guest
Sorry I have not been keeping up on this but when I was on Gleevec I used to get sharp pains in my eyeballs. Like a pin prick. Quick and sore. But I did not get the eyebleeds right after. My eye dr. said they are blood vessels bursting. He said nothing to worry about...sure!!! But now that I am on Tasagnia I do not get them. Sharon T. _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of JoAnn Sent: Wednesday, November 04, 2009 8:07 AM Subject: [ ] Re: Eye Pain Question Sue, I've been on Gleevec for 3 years and had my first eye bleed in September, then three more since then. I, too, have felt the very sharp pain in my eye immediately before (or during?) the bleed. For me it has always been the same eye, and same portion on the eye (about half). I have an appointment with a retina specialist on Monday and will report what he says. JoAnn > > Hi: I read the posts on the eye pain, and I have to say that I am not on Sprycel. Guest guest
Everything isn't the disease and drug, but some things are. When I was waiting to get in the sti571 (gleevec) trial in 2000 we weren't talking about side effects, we were talking about living. But it just goes to show that complaining about, and comparing side effects is really a good thing.
