I would suggest filing a complaint with your state insurance department.  Also,

I would call their public relations department and threaten to bring the matter

to the attention of , the filmmaker who did the scathing

documentary on the greedy and ineffective U.S. health insurance industry known

as " Sicko. "   You can contact at  www.michaelmoore.com

This threat has gotten results for sick people who were denied treatment by

insurance company bureaucrats.

Insurance companies hate publicity which exposes the fact they kill people by

denying claims.

Good luck,

Carl

I have Blue Cross also.  The first time I called in my prescription for Gleevec,

they said it wasn't a covered medication. Talk about a shock there for a

while. Turned out BC has a segregated " special pharmacy " system, so it wasn't

covered through regular pharmacy coverage.  You have to realize that the people

they have working the phones or answering emails  are not experts.  Call and

talk to them and ask to speak to a supervisor.  Also, make sure you're

requesting your prescription be filled by a pharmacy on their approved list.  I

can only get my Gleevec through two tele-pharmacies, one if Florida and one in

Pennsylvania (I live in Louisiana).  It's funny, because before they restricted

it to these two pharmacy I got it from the Wal-Mart Specialty pharmacy and it

was at least two hundred dolllars a month cheaper.  Just another way they have

of making a dollar or two extra off your carcase.  That's what it's all about

with the medical

industrial complex.

Good luck.

Thank God I have always had a cancer plan.  It was one thing I didn't mind

paying and hoped I never had to use it. It pays for my prescription 100%.

Hi,

I am glad you are covered now. I live in NV. Can you tell me how you got a

cancer plan? Although I guess it is too late now, pre-existing and all. I

qualify for Medicare in April 2011. I am on Cobra now as I had to go on perm.

med. disability. I am so scared as Gleevec is not covered by Medicare.

Thanks

,

I have had a cancer plan forever it seems. This particular one I have had since

1997.  You are right -- no one will take us now with existing conditions.

Hi : When I was diagnosed with CML, I was under a regular insurance plan.

I had no problem with them paying for whatever I needed, but when my husband was

out of work we had to get COBRA, and as long as you do not let your insurance

drop and go right onto the Cobra, it just continues until you go back to work

and get new Insurance. It was expensive for us, because we had to cash in

retirement money from my husbands plan to pay ahead for the Cobra.

I am still under my husbands insurance, but I know we will both be on Medicare

at some point. Then I do not know what we will do. That is very interesting

regarding Medicare not paying for your cancer care.

I thought as long as you go from one thing to another you are covered. I

hope somebody answers your questions, as I would like to learn more also. I do

not know about Medicare with secondary insurance like AARP or something.I think

this should be a new subject for us all to discuss.

Take Care

yOU really dont want to get me on the medicare thin, is there a group for angry

people with cancer? I'm kind of kidding. Remember I have been fighting this

battle for over five years now. The reason I am still here is purely out of

stubroness not from great treatment, doctors or health insurance thank God! when

i was first diagnosed i had only medicare not medicade I was 29 and had enough

work credits to recive SSD insted of SSI so there fore i was intitled to an

80\20 plan I paid $90 a month for out of my $752 with no perscription plan this

was when those free perscription plans were popular. You paid a $5 application

fee and if you didnt have insurance you would not have to pay for perscriptions.

so applied for about 30+ for them at $5 each to find out that every one would

deny me due to the fact i had insurance. I made $1 over the limit for medicade

no offense but if you are confused medicade was state insurance for people that

hadnt worked enough to recive SSD medicare, medicade being a 100% coverage for

both dr. and perscriptions. No cost. Sure medicare offered catastrophic out of

pocket coverage but you had to have around $6,000 out of pocket first dont quote

me on the exzact amount it was some where in the area. How was I supose to cover

that when I recived just a little more then that a year total to live on. I was

reciving several perscriptions to possiably prolong life not even a cure

totaling $27,00 a month. Needless to say I had several dr.'s drop me on the fact

" how could they treat me if I could not afford the treatment " who could? When my

husband and I were married his work had a group plan that offered coverage to

everyone with no pre exsitting clause. so that is how my story goes its crazy

how things work excuse my spelling im not very good at it. I wish i had a cancer

plan but how many of us consider that in our 20's. Its a shame.

Hi and everyone, I am not too informative on how expensive drugs get paid

for with Medicare,. even though I am on Medicare.  I have been in trials for 9

years, therefore do not have to pay for my treatment.  But I have medicare part

A and part B, and AARP plan J, and plan D for drugs.  I pay nothing for doctors,

hospitals, emergencies, or any kind of test or xray.  On my drug plan I pay a

part of it, until I reach the " donut hole "   then it is very expensive.  But when

I thought I may be put on Tasigna I called my drug plan and asked how much it

would be, and the girl said, " Oh  the first month  will only be $4600,, then it

will go down! "   I like her choice of words ONLY !

Last week when I called in my refills I was told my Prevacid would be over $450,

again, I had reached the donut hole, and said, no thanks, I'll take Tums!

But back to medicare and AARP and plan D.  Together they cost about $330 a

month..plus whatever my drugs are, about $150 a month.

An example of plan D :  Crestor - Plan's price 300.10,  plan paid 201.13, I paid

99.00 - 90 day supply.

Metoprolor (toprol) plan price - 111.62, plan paid 111.62, I pain -0-.  it is a

generic drug.

I am happy with my plan, but have to admit if I did not have outside income I

would not have this plan, as I worked so few years, and my husband died so

young, my SS is not real high.  I would be the bag lady on the main street of

Brecksville!

I wish the politicians would get their " stuff " together and come up with a plan

that would cover everyone, especially pre-existing diseases, and drugs. I hear

people complain they don't want politicians running our health care system, they

want doctors doing it.  Well this site is a great example of what " some " doctors

are like and how they think.   If we were to have a few of these

so called doctors dictating our health care, we could all be up the proverbial

creek without a paddle!!

Dear Group,

Please call and email your senators and representatives and tell them your

personal struggles with the system that's in place. Tell them what you tell us

here. I really think it will make the difference. They need to know what some of

us go through to get life saving treatments and drugs.Tell them how some of us

cringe everytime a service is denied, or how we hope our drugs will continue to

be covered. The more they know, the more they will see how the healthcare system

needs to change! TELL THEM !!!! It might just make the difference we need.

Thanks,
