Guest guest
Hi and welcome to the group. When I was first diagnosed 3 years ago, I read lots on the internet -- and was very frightened by it all! Remember that it seems that the people who have the most trouble with RA are the ones who probably belong to most of the internet groups. You don't hear from the ones who have a less severe form of the disease. I think my RA is relatively mild. I did have a hard time that first year and was off work or worked part time for most of that school year (I'm a speech therapist in the schools). But I've been working full time since then and rarely miss a day of work. You'll really just have to see how you do once you get on some medication and it gets working for you. Wish you all the best with it! -------Original Message------- From: Rheumatoid Arthritis Date: Tuesday, January 08, 2002 02:21:11 PM Rheumatoid Arthritis Subject: Hi - I'm new here Hi everyone - I'm new here so I thought I would just say hi. I was diagnosed by my gp last week with RA - now awaiting some blood test results.I've been reading up on this through the internet and it is pretty scary stuff.Although I'm hurting, I do work in an office, a lot on the computer. Do you think this is hurting me more? or will I be able to continue in this line of work?
Guest guest
Hello & Welcome, I'm 24 years old and have severe inflammatory arthritis. My arthritis affects the left side of my body. I agree with that we don't usually hear from people with mild arthritis. For me, finding out what works for me was trial and error. Currently my prescriptions are: Prednisone (5 mg/day), Azulfidine (8 grams/day), Folic Acid (3 mg/day), Methotrexate (20 mg/week), Remicade (200mg/8 weeks), & Motrin (2400 mg/day). The onset of my symptoms in November '99 was so rapid that doctors originally thought I had a stroke. In addition to the meds, I try to eat healthy (which is hard when you're on Prednisone), yoga, ballet, drink a lot of water, manage my stress (another hard one), and get an adequate amount of sleep. I have found that Internet groups like this are helpful as well as joining the Arthritis Fdtn. As with any chronic disease, it is vital to have a good rheumatologist. In the past 2 years, I have had great rheumatologists in Pennsylvania, New York City, & Washington, DC. I hope this helps. Oh, about your job ... my best advice is to listen to your body and do what's best. When I was first diagnosed, I was in my last semester at college. After graduation, I took 6 months off & moved back in what my parents. It was hard, but necessary for me. It may not be for you. Have a good day. Take care, >-------Original Message------- > >From: Rheumatoid Arthritis >Date: Tuesday, January 08, 2002 02:21:11 PM >Rheumatoid Arthritis >Subject: Hi - I'm new here > >Hi everyone - I'm new here so I thought I would just say hi.
