Guest guest
Ruth, There is something called the 'neurogenic bladder' that might be CMT related. Then there is also something called 'stress incontinence'. But I'm thinking what you said about age and your friends, so yes, perhaps start with a visit to a Urologist. There are some good medications that may help like Ditrophan. And also Kegel exercises may help too. Read this site over too. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/003975.htm ~ Gretchen
Guest guest
Thanks, Gretchen. I've done the Kegel bit before, and it helped, especially after the birth of my daughter. That was way before I had CMT symptoms. Could be time to resume the exercises. It seems harder to " squeeze " the right muscles now, but maybe I just need practice. One of my friends was helped with Detrol. Do you know anything about that? I'm very drug shy because of my fear of side effects. , after reading your message I'm tempted to reach for the super glue (lol) Ruth
Guest guest
Ruth, It probably would be wise to check in with your urologist first as this is definitely something which often happens to us gals as we age - I have now, with God's grace) reached your age - and have a very small problem with similar symptoms. Guess it would mean a sequence of MDs to discover whether it is CMT related. Blessings, and good luck, P. P.S. By chance, are you the Ruth who attended the CMT conference in St. Louis in 2001? Guest guest
My incontinence problem has increased dramatically, I have both urge and stress incontinence, as well as occasional just plain leaking. I'm going to make an appointment with both a urologist and my neuro, (don't know how long it will take to get those appointments). Thanks, Jerry, for your suggestion. I'll call that number and ask what the ingredients are in Betterwoman, so I can discuss it with my docs. Yes, , I was at that great conference in St. Louis. At that time I was the support group leader in the Berkeley, CA area. Thanks for remembering. This is SUCH a helpful site. Thanks, Gretchen & all of you. We all need to do a body cleanse yearly.
Guest guest
There is a homeopathic remedy, " Causticum " , listed for " bed wetting " , that can help enormously for some people. You don't even have to take the whole suggested dose. Sometimes just one tiny pellet, dissolved in the mouth once a day, is effective. And, though I'm not quite convinced, I'm told that homeopathics have no side effects. I'm open to enlightenment, if anyone thinks otherwise :-) Konnie > > I've been on LDN for several years. In comparison to Gleevec, you must be in 7th heaven not having the problems you had before. This what I find so fascinating that amongst all of us, there is such a wide range of symptoms and what works for one doesn't necessarily work for the other. You are right about the doctors (oncologists) not wanting to discuss this in their practice. They always ask what your doctor at home says about it or suggest that you see a specialist. I received good news today, my rheumatologist' s office called and said my last test was a false positive, I do not have lupus. I feel like going out and celebrating, but don't have enough energy. LOL You only have to experience c-difficile to know what real pain is and it is caused by a toxic reaction to antibiotics. Antibiotics are known to be acid (see article). And to Maui Nanc, you are right on the issue of keeping a proper balance of enzymes. This is an interesting article(s) that our avid readers may want to bone up on. (What's good and what's not.) ____________ _________ ________ " Alcohol, coffee, black tea, sodas and concentrated juices all have a negative effect on your body's pH level. All these products produce a lot of acid and a lot of mucus. All of these acidic foods can affect the pH balance in your body in a very negative way. A healthy human body is slightly alkaline measuring 7.4 approximately. This ideal blood measurement means that it is slightly more alkaline than acid. Many people wonder why they lack energy and feel so sluggish all the time. We wonder why we can not seem to lose the weight that we want to and why some of us have poor digestion. When our pH level is out of whack our bodies reflect it like this. " Brace yourself: the foods highest in acid are Antibiotics Ice cream, Processed cheese, & Soybeans. Much more at their website. http://ezinearticles.com/?Acidic-Foods---5-Acidic-Foods-To-Avoid & id=1085322 ____________ _________ _________ __ Focus on alkaline foods. Dr. Ruth Swope, in Green Leaves of Barley, comments, " We have become too full of acid and, as a result, are experiencing a wide range of diseases that flourish in the acid medium. " Dr. Yoshihide Hagiwara, in Green Barley Essence, mentions that, " Should this balance [acid and alkaline] be upset, the cell metabolism suffers, leading to conditions such as fatigue. " Common symptoms of an unbalanced pH include heartburn (a burning sensation in the stomach and acid-tasting burps), bloating, belching, and feeling full after eating small amounts of food. Other symptoms could include insomnia, water retention, migraines, constipation with diarrhea, & fatigue. " Anything look familiar to you??????? http://www.itsmyownhealth.com/ FYI, Lottie Duthu
