Guest guest
Dear (Cogan), You brought back more memories of HHT. I, too had a cvc (central venous catheter) in my chest. Every time Jimmy changed the dressing, the skin would come off with it and the bleeding would be visible immediately after. He had to put more tape right back in the same spot. We had to go to classes to learn how to do it the right way and you were not let off the hook until you could prove you did it right. He even had to change rubber gloves in the middle of the procedure and do it with one hand the other behind his back. Did you have to do anything like that? I had to turn my head away from the hole in my chest, so I did not breathe any bacteria on it. Now that was taken with INF, so it was a double whammy. I am still wondering how you pulled it off by yourself - you have some determination. I am not envious of your own tribulations, but as Bobby said, we made it through. I don't consider myself any braver than the rest, I think I just did what I had to do to stay alive. If they had said I had to do all that while standing on my head, I guess I would have complied. I would not try to compare anything that I experienced with that of a patient who underwent a BMT. Those are the real heroes in my book. I agree with you on having an injection. I am now getting Procrit injections, which is far better than having a blood transfusion. Some people have to undergo infusions for cancer and we get to take the little pills. If the injections didn't make me sick, I would opt to get them to taking the little pills. Everyone has their druthers. Have a good weekend everyone.
