Guest guest
Hi CML Group. I do not post often anymore but do continue to read the list. I also wanted to weigh in on the body changes on Gleevec. Several months after I started taking Gleevec in 2003, I did not recognize myself. Between the weight gain and puffy face and eyes, I was so frustrated. CML is tough enough for everyone but these added issues are tough. (And I do not consider myself vain - I just didn't even look remotely like myself) After lots of other issues with Gleevec, nausea, GI issues, etc. - I recently switched to Tasigna. Within a month of starting the new drug, I can actually see the puffiness fading. (I have traded side effects from Gleevec however - for new side effects which include tremors and unfortunately a borderline issue with the dreaded black box warning QTc prolongation that is a slight possibility when taking Tasigna. We are following it closely and I'll keep you all posted. I certainly can relate to the frustration you all feel. Do hope everyone is doing well and yes - we are blessed to have Gleevec, Tasigna and the other drugs available to us - regardless! ; - ) Most sincerely, Barbara Heathcote
