Guest guest Posted November 20, 2002 Report Share Posted November 20, 2002 hello everybody. can someone please tell me why two swollen knees don't show up on an xray..My knees are swollen and hurt and yet my xrays came back normal..what is this swelling then.. (is it fluid or tissue)the swelling is over the outsides of my knees..right knee looks exactly same swollen as left.. i was diagnoised with ra, fibromy..osteoarth..osteopenia in 2000 and have had hypothyroidism since 89. and if that's not enough pain migraines visit me on a regular basis.. not a day goes by that i'm not in pain..i'm sure you all know what i mean...luckily my disability was approved and i don't work, so i can rest when i need to especially with the chronic fatigue and the bad knees.. today i started prednisone 5mg 2xday..plaquenil had to be discontinued because of the many side affects. will i have a problem with weight gain on such a low dosage. thank you all for listening i don't write much but i read the posts and you all are so wonderful in the way you support each other.. patty Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Guest guest Posted November 20, 2002 Report Share Posted November 20, 2002 Hi Patty, It does sound like you are dealing with a lot. Xrays only detect bony changes, and swelling is soft tissue. All that a "normal" xray means is that you do not have any bony changes...at least from the angles they looked at. Hope that helps. (I'm an RN with seronegative RA). I've been on 5-10 mg of Prednisone a day and unfortunately gained weight. Not something I needed, as I struggle with my weight already. Good luck to you.
