I am so sorry to hear of you problems with your surgery. How are you feeling other than the pain are you having any other symptoms still? I am not surprised that you are having healing issues, I feel that our immune systems have been so compromised by the implants that these things happen.

Listen I got to get to bed now but I wanted you to know that I read your email and I am very concerned, please keep us posted dear girl.

Hugs

Subject: Bad news

I had my cervical xrays done yesterday and got the results today. The result as read by the radiologist is just what I feared----another failed cervical fusion at C5-6 and C6-7. The fusion at C4-5 has taken, however. I am sending my films to my surgeon in Denver for review, as maybe he will interpret/read the films differently. Also, I'm hoping that perhaps since this is my second fusion at C5-7 that healing will just take longer. But I reviewed the films as well, and you can clearly see the open spaces where bone should have filled in.

Also, I started having sharp, severe, debilitating hip pain (where my donor site is) last Thurs when I was working for J & J at one of the hospitals here. I initially attributed it to carrying too much weight, so I shifted some of the weight I was carrying, but the pain continued. It was only when I walked, and was fine when I was sitting or standing but not ambulating. So, I had hip/pelvic xrays done to see if perhaps I had suffered a small fracture around the donor site. Luckily, there is no fx, but there is a "bony defect" on one area of the donor site. I had the doc enlarge it on the computer, and it was several "spikes" which he said may have unnaturally attached to the muscle and that is what is causing the pain. But you can't see muscle on plain films, so there's really no way of telling.

At any rate, a portion of the donor site has healed in a jagged way. The doc said that it could have just been the way my body healed, or it could be a postsurgical "problem" although it's not a problem per se, just a nuisance. But the rad felt that this was unusual and if this occurs, it's usually right after surgery, not this far out.

I did call my neurosurgeon in Denver and left a msg about the reports/films, and his NP called me back and said that I just can't jump to conclusions until he has seen the films and drawn his own conclusions. I am fedexing the films to him for delivery Fri, so I should find out what he thinks Fri evening.

I am convinced that the silicone that spilled into my chest cavity and/or possibly my blood is still to blame. I'm not quite sure that this crap is completely out of my system, and hence the poor healing, dental problems, CA, etc. Any input Dr. Kolb? Could this be a possibility?

I am feeling pretty good. I have constant pain in my neck and then the intermittent sharp pain in my hip, but other than that, I feel good. I have energy, am working 2 jobs, and I think I'm doing much better now than just 3 months ago. I'm constantly on the go, and most days I work 15-16 hrs, going from my regular FT job to my job with & . At the same time, my work is not extremely physical because I'm not involved in pt care anymore. I'm strictly doing management only in my main job, and with J & J, I am a clinical nurse consultant, so I do mostly sales and marketing. I feel that if I was doing pt care, I probably would be much worse off. On the other hand, now that I'm in management, I feel like I need to keep my skills up, so I'm looking at taking a third job in PACU (recovery room) at one of the hospitals here. It would only be per diem, so that usually means just 16 hrs/month. I also had a job interview this AM with Merck Pharmaceuticals for a sales rep position. I'm not too happy in my job, and want to get into something I really want to do. So, I'm not closing any doors simply because I have a FT job. I just haven't found my niche yet, and when I do, I will know it. Until then, I will keep looking until something becomes available. Which of course means another move, but hey, I'm a pro at it now!!! (Yeh right!) I'm also looking at possibilities with Abbott, and one position they have available is an infusion therapy nurse consultant in Denver! At any rate, I guess you could say I'm doing okay. Now if only my neck and hip would heal and the chronic pain would go away! e ----- Original Message ----- From: Heer Sent: Tuesday, June 04, 2002 9:58 PM Subject: Re: Bad news I am so sorry to hear of you problems with your surgery. e: I would suggest a natural killer T cell test to see what your immune system is doing. .

e,

I'm thrilled to hear you are feeling good! . . .

However, . . . (now this is the mother in me speaking)

.. . . if you are working so many hours, you are not

giving your body the rest it needs to repair itself! .

.. .

Please give you body what it needs . . . sleep, diet,

good water, good attitude, etc. . . . and be patient.

Your body sends pain signals for a reason. You've come

a long way, but unless you have superhuman genes, your

body has a way to go yet.

The wonderful job, money and home will be there when

you are well and can enjoy everything that comes with

them.

Hugs and prayers,

Rogene

  • 8 months later...

Hello All,

Well I just want y'all to know that I am not gonna be from early

evening till sometime Saturday. My fiance and I are heading

to Portland OR for the funeral of a lady who was like a second mom to

him all through his formative years.

I was up most of the night watching him because he was restless and I

was in a major RA flare. I guess thats the maternal instinct in me, I

know when he is in an FM crisis or about to go into one.

Anyway, I have an appointment wih my GP this afternoon and will ask

her about a mild sleep aid and also to refill my pain meds.

I will see y'all when I return home sometine Saturday.

Much Love,

Rose

I wish you the very Best of luck, . This is another reason that

funding should be made available for the studies needed to either

approve or disapprove of LDN.
