Guest guest
Hi list, Please excuse me if this is not a proper place to post this. I hope to also get a copy of the article to my non-mercury dentist. This article horrifies me, but I don't feel competent to send an authoritative reply to the magazine. I am hoping that someone who can will write them. From " Fitness " magazine, October 2000, page 60, in an article called " Fitness Investigates Urban Health Legends " : ----------------------------------------------------------- THE RUMOR: Mercury-amalgam fillings are toxic. And according to groups like the American Academy of Biological Dentistry (AABD), these fillings can contribute to maladies like lethargy, arthritis, and acne. The AABD advocates removing mercury-amalgam ( " silver " ) fillings. The theory: mercury is a poison, and having it in your mouth is dangerous. FITNESS SAYS: Logical? Perhaps. True? No. Although mercury ingested on its own can be toxic, mercury in silver fillings is perfectly harmless. " Mercury forms a different compound when mixed with other metals and no longer has the dangerous properties it has on its own, " explains J. Rodway Mackert, D.D.M., Ph.D., spokesman for the American Dental Association. Furthermore, there have been only 50 cases of allergic reactions to mercury-amalgam fillings recorded in scientific literature since 1905 -- and the telltale symptoms are likely to consist of redness around the gums rather than a sudden outbreak of arthritis. ------------------------------------------------------------- I have just resubscribed to this list, but I TRUELY cannot keep up with the mail (even getting digest). I appreciate the info and support on this list, but can't even skim all the messages. I'm saying that in case someone says something in response and I seem oddly quiet! I may not have seen it.
