Guest guest
Hi Patsy I would worry about the ongoing destruction to the joints if you are not taking some type of medication. Pain killers are wonderful, but they do not stop the progression of the dis-ease as far as I know or have read. Becky in AZ
Guest guest
Patsy, Becky is right. RA is a disease that destroys the cartilage between the bones, the bones, and ligaments and tendons in and around the joints. Without medication to inhibit and put the disease into remission the body continues to destroy these tissues and when they are gone you are in a world of hurt. Joint replacement will be the only option. Jay > Hi Patsy > I would worry about the ongoing destruction to the joints if you are not taking some type of medication. Guest guest
thank you all so much for your advice and caring words...When I went to my Rheumatoligist about a month ago, he wasn't happy that I didn't continue with the plaquenil but he said that it was my choice...I asked him if the disease would get bad quick and He's answer was NO..He said I was fine and that it was early in the disease and not to worry... but, he did say for me to come back anytime when I was ready to start theraphy and we could try something new...He's supposed to be a very good rheumatoligist..I got scared when I developed skin cancer a few months ago and thought the medicine "plaquenil" and the didrocal were making me more sensitive to the sun...I really don't feel like i'm as bad as so many of you on this list..compared to your stories, mine seems so minor..except for this summer when we have so much heat.. Wishing you all strength each day... patsy -------Original Message------- From: Rheumatoid Arthritis Date: Saturday, July 26, 2003 06:31:21 PM Rheumatoid Arthritis Subject: Re: Patsy Patsy,Becky is right. Guest guest
I don't understand your doctor saying the disease would not get bad quickly. That might depend on what he meant by "get bad". I have heard of many cases where people have pain but no swelling, treat the pain, and their next symptom is permanent joint damage. I strongly recommend a second opinion. You are no better off than all of us were at one time. I hoipe with early and aggressive treatment you can avoid becoming as bad as most of us are. Good luck and God bless. ----- Original Message ----- From: pw Rheumatoid Arthritis Sent: Sunday, July 27, 2003 1:38 AM Subject: Re: Re: Patsy thank you all so much for your advice and caring words...When I went to my Rheumatoligist about a month ago, he wasn't happy that I didn't continue with the plaquenil but he said that it was my choice...I asked him if the disease would get bad quick and He's answer was NO..He said I was fine and that it was early in the disease and not to worry... but, he did say for me to come back anytime when I was ready to start theraphy and we could try something new...He's supposed to be a very good rheumatoligist..I got scared when I developed skin cancer a few months ago and thought the medicine "plaquenil" and the didrocal were making me more sensitive to the sun...I really don't feel like i'm as bad as so many of you on this list..compared to your stories, mine seems so minor..except for this summer when we have so much heat..
