I'm sorry you're going through this... At 18, it's tough - As a parent you

really have no control LEGALLY as far as medications, etc. I remember

clearly my teen-age daughter who was not OCD, but bipolar, and refused to take

medication. It's tough on you and those in the household. She, too, would

become extremely aggressive and have rage episodes. Unfortunately, your safety

and that of your son and anyone else in the house MUST come first. Have you

thought of hospitalization? If you have a mental health unit in your area, you

can most likely have him admitted on an emergency basis - they usually allow

you to have him " committed " for a 36 hour period. At least it would take

some of the immediate danger of him wanting to " end it all " out of the picture.

Giving him a Valium may solve the short-term in the moment issue, but long

term you/he needs to come up with a plan. My son with OCD (younger, he's 15)

also has body dysmorphic issues, but medication has made 100% difference.

It sounds like your son needs a crisis intervention type plan ASAP at this

point. If he could be admitted (even involuntarily) perhaps he could be

started

on medication in a safe environment and he'd at least be able to realize

there is help available. Without medication to stabilize what's going on right

now there really isn't much you can do as just his mom...

Keep us posted... You're in my thoughts.

and aggressive and throws things and has put his fist through the

wall.
