Guest guest
I've been on Placquenil for about 8 years now. It took a long time to start working(one - two months) because it is a dmaard(disease-modifying anti-arthritic drug) rather than a pain killer or one that reduces swelling. It's worked very well for me over the years, once I got through all the side effects. I had every one of them, including the rash, and because I didn't want to go to a stronger drug, I rode it out. It wasn't fun, but I'm glad I held out. I have no deformed joints, and although I experience a lot of stiffness, and transient pain in different joints, I'm still working, doing everything I want to do, and feeling better than I thought I would at this stage. I have minor flares occasionally, but haven't had a major one since I started. About every two years I'll get a steroid shot somewhere, but that's all. ----- Original Message ----- From: mailto:jrsybuff <jrsybuff@... Guest guest
-Hi Brad, When I was first diagnosed (6yrs),I was taking both Plaquenil and Sulfasalazine in addition to Prednisone. Most of these meds take a while to build up in your blood steam, and thats when you will feel some relief. It worked ok for me for a while. Unfortunately, the only oral med that gives me any great relief is the prednisone, and the long term effects of that aren't too good. How long have you had RA? Guest guest
Hi Brad! I'm taking Plaquenil, along with Methotrexate, Darvocet, Naprosin, Medrol & Folic Acid. If your doctor has prescribed Plaquenil, be sure to get your eyes checked once a year. One of this drug's side effects is that it can mess up your vision. Which reminds me, I need to make an appointment for my eye exam...saw the eye doc last March.
