na: I'd be interested in hearing what she says about 'contagiousness' of

ocds, too. My son seems to get stuck on anything he hears about others being

stuck on. I keep him isolated from other ticcers and ocd-ers for that reason.

I understand your concern, but our psychologist suggested the support

group as part of the therapy, and I know that when my son watches

videos about OCD patients or reads stories about OCD, he is more

motivated to do the therapy and it really has a therapeutic effect on

him. He told me that when he sees other people with OCD and the weird

things they are doing, he realizes how irrational and weird his own

behavior is. Some of the best OCD treatment programs in the country

use support groups and group therapy as an additional component of

the treatment. Other parents told me that just meeting with someone

who has the same disorder and talking to that person helps. My son

has never met anyone with OCD. He goes to a small private school and

he is the only student with OCD there (we had to educate the school

psychologist and the teachers about OCD).

I will ask our therapist (our next appointment is in 10 days) about

the age of the other patients who are willing to do that. I think if

there are other teenagers in the group (closer to your son's age) ,

the fact that some of them are younger than others won't matter so

much.
