Hi

It would be my opinion it is a form of

neuropathy…either compression neuropathy or peripherial neuropathy…

it is painful and irritating….treatments

vary and though I have had it for two years I have never been given treatment..

It is a part of the inflammatory process

of the RA is it not?????pressing on the nerves and causing damage

hope this futher illuminates..

sincerely

sam

DAREN,

Hi! my name is Pam and I also have the same prob you do with my

hands.Do you ever have prob with your hands itching and burning? The

things I have learned to do and not to do are if you are cleaning

where gloves, sometimes you will find that things like comet will

cause you probs, you may notice that you get prune hands for no

reason, this is normal with RA, I can't remeber what it's called but

it is just one of those things. You need to keep your hands felxable

use playdough, clay, ball whatever you like, but do it as many times

as you can, also heat or cold will help too,you will have to find

whicth works best for you. How are you sleeping, one or two pillows.I

have found that I have less probs if I sleep on one.

Your prob could be carpal tunnel, it would not hurt to be

checked, but most people with RA have the same prob with their hands

and feet. Check with your doctor to see if they will refur you to PT

they can show you hand exerices and new ways to use your hands.

None of us like this crap, but we must make some changes

As you can see today is a bad hand day for me.

Take care of you, and I don't think you should go out of baseball

HaHa! Pam

Hi

just my opinion but it could be peripheral

neuropathy caused from the inflammation pressing against the nerves…and

it is not nice that is for sure….

my husband and I have it continuously in

the both hands and wrists for two years now…

hope this helps….i know some people

take many type drugs for it…we have not taken anything for it…

good luck….

Sincerely

Sam

Hi Kate,

I also test negative for the rheumatoid factor. My symptoms started in 9/99. I saw 12 different doctor in 8 weeks. The only reason they believed something was wrong was my elevated sed rate as well (normal is 15-20 and mine went close to 200 so they knew something was very wrong).

I also noticed that symptoms went lowered after I had a diagnosis and started Prednisone but that didn't last long. I take Azulfidine EN (the enteric coated ones, they're easier going down.). I was on it for 3 months before I noticed an improvement.

On the advice of a doctor, I switched from from regular dairy products to organic milk and soymilk. It's not as bad as I thought. :) I noticed a huge difference by cutting all caffiene and carbonated beverages (even ginger ale). I did it slowly. Now I notice a difference when I have soda or coffee. I switched to herbal tea w/o caffiene.

Hope that helps.
