Guest guest
Hi, Lea. I've been hoping someone else would respond to your post but so far no luck. You really need to have a doctor examine you and get some lab work done to find out what is wrong. I would start out with my primary care physician (PCP) to rule out thyroid imbalance, electrolyte imbalance, and whatever else the PCP and rule out. If nothing shows up there, then I would go to a Rheumatologist (a specialist in joint diseases). I'm sorry I can't give you any better ideas. Good luck and God bless. ----- Original Message ----- From: Lea Rheumatoid Arthritis Sent: Saturday, April 26, 2003 9:45 AM Subject: Is the Arthitis? Hello my name is Lea and I'm new to this board. Guest guest
Hi LEA, I'm new myself to this group and I'm 50 year old. not marry any more. I have Ra & Fibro for 13 years and in the last 2 1/2 months I been real sick with my hands, at times I would like my hands cut off and the DR put me on vicodin and that does real take the pain away. I started with dropping things and was in so much pain in my hands & knees, I was working at the time, I couldn't work any more so I had to quit cuz I hurt so bad and tried all the time. We were in England Green Common and they send me back to states and they found out it was RA. I going threw Menopause myself. I hope we can get to help each other. Guest guest
Lea- I'm also new to this group. Am 26 years old and diagnosed w/RA this winter. I had been searching for the answer to my problems for several years and it took this long to diagnose as RA. Luckily my symptoms are mild. With my diagnosis, I had several things ruled out that could be the cause for you. At one point, I was tested for Carpal Tunnel b/c my wrists were affected as well. The dropping things, etc, can be a result of the Carpal. I had a neurologist test the nerves through my wrists to make sure they were connecting and responding. I agree with Harold. See your PCP and have them rule some things out. I did the same and then was referred to a Rheumatologist. It can be difficult to diagnose for some people like me b/c my symptoms were so slight but still affected me. Good luck! My best advice is to keep at it until you get an answer. Jill > Hi, Lea. Guest guest
Lea, My name is , I am also kind of new to the list, and I was diagnosed with RA only few months ago, I am 32 now but I have been suffering from it since my early 20's, my symptoms are mild, so at a younger age I didn't pay much attention to it, also I use to work out and lift weights pretty hard, and that helps, you if are thinking about starting a fitness program you have to contact your doctor, therapist or someone that can taylor a program for you, don't start by yourself because you can make more damage than good. Exercise is very important, also people have been talking about drinking lots of water, that does help, a good diet will also help, lots of vegetable, fruits and all the green stuff you can find, and very important cut back on sugar, alcohol, sodium, cheese as much as you can. anyway, it works for me. another thing that i found few weeks back was liquid glucosamine, it provides faster and better absorption, there is a product called Syn-Flex, and I buy it from www.activexamerica.com , glucosamine has helped a lot, two times I stopped the glucosamine to make sure it was working for me, and also to make sure that it was not merely some sort of placebo effect even though some doctors have nothing against a placebo effect as long as a patient benefits from it, well, I myself have not given much thought to that yet, anyway I also take 1000 I. U. vitamin E daily, plus 1000 mg vitamin C, fish oil, 1500 mg calcium, there is a product called Os-cal plus D, and that is a great form to take calcium, it has just the right amount of vitamin D so then your body can absolve calcium easier and more effective, you should talk to your doctor or nutritionist about dosages. My point with all of this is, it may not cure any form of R. A. but if you get to feeling better, if you eat healthy your overall outlook changes and it becomes easier to deal with your condition. Folks I am sorry about my long email, it's just that I have been feeling great lately and I just wanted to share some ideas, and hopefully some of it can work for you too, I have been reading a lot of books on the subject and that helps, "know your enemy", just for the record I am not taking any kind of medication and just few months ago I had to pop up about 18 advils a day just to get by. I hope you all get to feeling better and improve. God bless you all. Guest guest
I agree with about diet, water, exercise, and vitamins for mild RA. I'm not sure about Glucosamine for RA but I have heard it works well for osteoarthritis. I wanted to add that for more severe cases of RA you need to be on a DMARD (disease modifying anti-rheumatic drug) to prevent long-term joint damage. ----- Original Message ----- From: Barbosa@... Guest guest
Thanks to everyone, Yesterday I did see my doctor, but the only thing she did was putting me on pain killers so, so far I still don't know if it's rheumatoid arthritis or what I had more support here than at the doctors office Thank you Lea Belgium54@com
Guest guest
Hi Lea, I hope your doctor ordered blood work and xrays for you and scheduled a followup visit. It might take several visits for her to have enough history and information to make a diagnosis. It is important to keep a journal at this point and log all of your symptoms. It will help to establish any patterns and might help for best treatment for you. There are literally hundreds of types of arthritis. It isn't necessarily advisable to jump into heavy treatment before a diagnosis is established - as it could mask a true diagnosis from being established. Hold tight Lea....it might take a bit of time, but please don't give up. Take care, gentle hug, Sandy From: "Lea" Reply-Rheumatoid Arthritis Rheumatoid Arthritis Subject: Re: Is the Arthitis?
