Guest guest
Hello all- I just thought I'd take a moment to introduce myself to everyone as I just joined the group yesterday. I'm a 35 yr old from RI. I've been married for a year. No kids. I was diagnosed with RA in December of 2002. Merry Christmas to me! My RA isn't too severe but it seems to have taken up residence in my hands and feet so it's a problem when it acts up. My doc started me on Naprosyn which helped quite a bit but didn't take care of it entirely. He then added Asulfadine which worked really well. I felt fantastic until I felt horrible. Evidently we discovered my first pharmacological alergy. Sulfur and I don't get along. My face was all swollen, red and itchy. It was quite catastrophic. Now, the doc has me on Plaquinil (sp?) which hasn't had the same effect as the Asulfadine yet but the doc did tell me that it might take a couple of months to kick in. I've been on that for about 3 weeks or so. I'll guess we'll see. Glad to be part of the group, Lorraine
Guest guest
Hi Lorraine. Welcome to the group. I'm glad to hear that your RA isn't too bad and I hope it stays that way. I'm not very familiar with Plaquenil but I think that is a mild DMARD (Disease Modifying Anti-Rheumatic Drug). You might check with your rheumatologist to make sure you are receiving aggressive enough treatment to avoid permanent damage. Some of the drugs have occasional bad side effects but RA that is not treated aggressively enough can also have bad effects. Good luck and God bless.
