Guest guest
I'm sending this one time, so Ron won't get it until he gets back, and some of you won't know who Ron is. We almost had a near tragedy today, just the day before 's 3rd birthday. and went into 's room (on the main floor) to play. I didn't realize they shut the door, which is against house rules. I got that Mother instinct, and called to Dewight from the dining room - he was in the kitchen and had a clear shot of their room - to ask if they had the door shut. They did, so he went to open it and it was locked. He's yelling at through the door to open the door, as I get a toothpick and pick it open. They aren't in there. Dewight goes to check to see if they locked the door on the way to 's room in the basement. No sign of them. Meanwhile I notice that a window is open when the ac is on. Checked it out and the screen is still in. That window faces the fenced back yard. On the way out, I notice that the window that faces the unfenced side yard is closed, and the screen is knocked out. You guessed it, managed to get out of the window and they were heading to Grandma's house. I hadn't seen them yet, just the screen gone. I run out the front door, to meet Dewight coming out the garage door. I told him the screen was out, and we run to the side of the house. Dewight saw 's red shirt heading toward Pontoon Road (which is a couple blocks away and a busy road, but luckily a 4-way stop). He takes off running, and I look up to see holding 's hand, looking both ways and then sprinting (well, for which meant that was keeping up pretty well) across the street. Dewight got there first, after yelling for to stop. Also luckily, had the good sense not to stop in the middle of the intersection. He (Dewight) squatted down to talk to them - and I have to give him credit, he didn't scream at them). As I got to the intersection, Dewight stood up and said, " Ok, let's go home. " turned and started to sprint across the street - into the path of an on-coming city bus. Another heart-attack moment. But the only injury was on the way back, tripped and skinned a toe and the top of the other foot. They had left without shoes and needed a new diaper. I don't know if that was before or after we caught them... I guess all's well that end's well. Just say a prayer of thanksgiving for us that I get to have a birthday party tomorrow and not attend a funeral. Guest guest
When I read that, my first reaction was that they were upstairs- falling out of the window. Well in a way it's funny that the door was locked so they had another way out. But in another way it's frustrationg, and I can see what you were going through. Glad everything turned out okay. Guest guest
Oh my goodness, Loriann. Someone was looking out for your boys today! I am so glad that they were stopped safely. Really, I know you must be thanking your stars that you had that mother instinct kick in when it did. Who knows where they could've been had you not realized it when you did. Augh... I'm going to stop thinking about " if's " now.... it's too scary. I had something similar happen fairly recently with my NDA son, 2 yrs old and the MOST strongwilled child I have ever known... he really has a mind of his own and this time it was not for the better. We live in an upstairs apartment. He and I were home alone during the day and somehow he got out of my line of sight - into our den he goes, he must've been gone only a couple mins while I was cleaning in the living room. I hear a scream and it isn't his normal whiny scream... it's a " help me " scream. I run into the den and can see from the hallway that the window screen was popped out. Yes.... (I'm still clutching my chest as I write this) he had managed to get his entire body completely out of the window... he was facing the window and hanging on by both of his tiny hands.... downward was our complex's swimming pool area. All I see as I enter were his tiny fingers clutching the sills and the top of his head. Without screaming (somehow) I ran to him and grabbed him tightly and carried him in.... proceeded to cry my eyes out along with him. Poor kid. I don't know how he managed to get past the window lock (it was shut btw) but this is the boy who uses the most creative ways to reach things that are out of his reach - has done this since he was tiny (tinier?) and same boy who crawled out of his crib at 7 months old. We thanked the Lord that day for looking out for Adam...... it truly was a miracle he was able to hold on. These kids, I'm telling you... driving us to an early grave. Hugs tonight, Sandy, writing much too long of a post ;-) mom to Gabby (6, ds-asd) and Adam (2, who learned his lesson! Oh yes!)
