Guest guest
I don't know how those little highlights happen, but I've had a beautiful perfect "Hi" from my nonverbal son too. It meant so much to me. I do think that it is an example of how our kids are taking in so much more than they are able to express. I think that they see more, hear more, and know more than we think that they do. Have you tried to use a augmentative device? Maybe he is ready for something like that. Congrats on the Hi Dad. Guest guest
You would have to supply more information for a theory to be offered. Many nonverbal children with ASD become verbal when they go on the GFCF diet, or get mB12 injections, or pass threw a period where their guts are less inflamed. Without knowing anything about this child no theory can be put forth. Guest guest
As Maurine knows, my 8yr old called for me this morning when he woke up, for the 1st time since regression “Mom, Mom…” I just started DMG several weeks ago, has your son tried anything new? He has always said things in the kind of situation you are talking about though. Startled, or with action. When he 1st started saying any words after total regression his first words were “WOW” “JUMP”, etc. Anything that came with action or movement. The use of names is new for us so I’m over the Moon this morning and can totally relate to how wonderful your son must feel from hearing “hi dad”. The little things are beautiful….- From: EOHarm [mailto:EOHarm ] On Behalf Of Maurine Meleck Sent: Sunday, January 13, 2008 10:23 AM EOHarm Subject: Re: Re: Does " Hi Dad " mean anything? Guest guest
Bob, Keep thinking about the connection to his ability to answer during a surprise moment. There is definitely something to the adrenalin-speech area with my son as well. Lots of jumping and sensory stuff may bring out more especially if something with the biomed route you are taking is working a little better now. From: EOHarm [mailto:EOHarm ] On Behalf Of Rmoffi@... I want to thank all who responded to my inquiry of " theories " on why my nonverbal grandson blurted " Hi Dad " after being surprised by his father. Special thanks to those who related similar experiences of joy in hearing a child speak such a simple phrase as " Hi Dad/Mom " . Our little guy has tried most of the conventional treatments, such as, diet, ABA, B-12 injections, chelation, etc. He is presently being treated by Dr. Krigsman for " gut issues " that are unresolved at the moment....also a nutritionist recommended by his DAN pediatrician. While these treatments have yet to produce the progress we seek, we remain hopeful they eventually will....and.....I suspect we will be retrying some in the future....when we believe his physical health has improved enough for them to prove more effective. In the meantime, we are greatly encouraged that, everyday, he demonstrates the comprehension, recognition and memory of an eight year old child. As evidenced in the spontaneous moment he blurted " Hi Dad " . Start the year off right. Easy ways to stay in shape in the new year.
