Guest guest
All of a sudden, over here in Pittsburgh, we have someone who donated $500,000 to buy a farm and start a school and therapy center for kids with autism. Funny thing is, it's in the middle of nowhere. Like, literally. So I started to do some digging. The company who funded it, PA Cyber Charter Schools, is run by Nick Trombetta -- who oddly enough is on the national advisory board of Autism Speaks. Hrm. Well, Nick Trombetta has been under investigation by the State of PA for funneling monies from his PA Cyber School into all kinds of questionable things. In fact, a local news station followed the story and the PA State Attorney General is actually, according to the Post Gazette, going to put him in front of a grand jury and indict him. This is the kind of person Autism Speaks has on their board? Were the executives of Enron tied up for the position? Interesting. http://www.postgazette.com/pg/07077/770513-298.stm http://kdka.com/kdkainvestigators/Pennsylvania.Cyber.Schools.2.379124.html http://kdka.com/kdkainvestigators/Pennsylvania.Cyber.Schools.2.379123.html

Guest guest
Probably got the land cheaper too in the middle of nowhere, good write off for their Non profit, they can show a loss at the new center, no one to work there, no parents to come there if its in the middle of nowhere. Guest guest
Not that I would ever give AS credit -- I would jump at the chance to have a center in the middle of nowhere which I think this is exactly what our kids need.......... the middle of nowhere is peaceful, no traffic (pollution), opportunities for gardening/organic farming (learning life skills), meditation in the quiet (noise can cause agitation in kids with audio sensitivity). Maybe in the middle of nowhere would give them a chance without stress to recover. That's me. I certainly do not give the powers at AS any credit for thinking along these lines.Rox Re: The tangled webs we weave Probably got the land cheaper too in the middle of nowhere, good write off for their Non profit, they can show a loss at the new center, no one to work there, no parents to come there if its in the middle of nowhere. If an organization is non-profit, there is no advantage to " showing a loss " -- as far as I can tell with my advanced goggle degree in corporate law.
