More list policy - no personal attacks

Hello,

Please end further discussion of list members collectively or

individually. It is not the purpose of this list to judge fellow

members. If you have any doubts to the value of this policy, I would

invite you to monitor for a minute the Autism Speaks forums or any of

the blogs targeted by the NDers (which were recently discussed here).

Those discussions are abusive, uninformative (and boring) because the

NDers and others with personality disorders who attend there have

little in their arsenal beside rude personal commentary. The polite

behavior policy of this list keeps the ND ghost lurkers here in

remission -- and keeps this list a pleasant place to exchange useful

information.

If you really must kick the dog, please find another list.

From personal experience in more flame seeking message boards, both

the courtesy policy and the personal attack policy are good ways to

keep communication open and honest. Would anyone be willing to post

their ideas or opinions if they knew they were going to get viciously

attacked, possibly for no good reason? How can we have a forum to

debate issues that are not getting the attention they deserve if that

attention is constantly diverted into a " he said, she said " type of

argument?

I actually am rather thick skinned, but I also realize that not

everyone else has that quality. I say " sir " and " ma'am " in " real "

life, and hold open doors for both men and women. I don't see any

reason that my online experience cannot follow the same standards of

courtesy.
