Guest guest
Below is info. about a research study my daughter is conducting.... Hi, I am the mother of a 10 year old boy with PDD-NOS, as well as a doctoral student in Communication Sciences and Disorders (speech- pathology) at the University of South Alabama. I am currently recruiting participants for a research project at USA and wanted to share some information about my study. I have recently made changes to my study design, so if you've read about my research before...please keep reading! :0) I am working hard to complete my degree so that I can begin working with families affected by autism. I would sincerely appreciate your help in sharing this information with others. This study is a retrospetive video analysis of home videos taken during the first 2 years of life. I am looking for participants with a diagnosis of either autism or PDD-NOS (no Asperger's). Parents must also have videotapes of their child during the first 2 years of life that they are willing to share for purposes of this study. Specifically, videos must contain footage of the child during each of the following time periods: 8-13 months and 19-24 months. I will make copies of original tapes, and return them to the parent. DVD copies will be available for free at parents' request. Parents will be asked to complete a questionnaire on their child's birth/medical/family history and early development. Children who live within a 100 mile radius of Mobile, AL will be given a hearing screening, and a nonverbal IQ screener and standardized language test will be administered. Recruiting in my local area has been difficult, so families nationwide are encouraged to participate. Families of children who live outside of the testing area are encouraged to share their most current IEP and/or recent testing information. Please email me for a " Fact Sheet " which provides an overview of the study. It can be hung in hallways or bulletin boards of centers/offices serving persons with ASDs. More detailed information is also available in information packets I have for distribution. Anyone who thinks they might be interested should contact myself or Dr. Beverly at the USA Speech and Hearing Clinic for more information. Additionally, I am available to answer any questions by phone (228)327-5908 or email -morganwatts@.... Thanks in advance for your help! This research is very important to me as both a parent and professional, and I am really excited about beginning this project. Sincerely, Weihing
