TOTALLY OT - Let it Snow

Wow, this morning it started blizzard conditions here in my tiny

town of Glide, Oregon. I know you out-of-staters associate snow

with Oregon, people getting stuck in their cars etc. But the truth

is, because of being on the Pacific Ocean we usually only get snow

in the mountains. In the valleys where most people live, we are

right around sea level and hence only see snow in a fluke storm

about once every 10 years.

Well, we are now approaching 5 hours of non-stop heavy snowing and

it is unbelievable. I am so sick I can hardly get out of bed, but I

have all the curtains pulled back and am enjoying the sheer beauty

of it all. For those of you that hate snow or get your fair share

regularly, you won't understand the joy I get out of this. I'm

going to miss the biggest snow in 50 years in bed. Keely is

chomping at the bit to get out there and build a snowman, but I

can't even see five feet beyond the windows, my satelite TV is

buried, and I don't dare go near my mother's house next door with

this nasty crud I have and her condition. I'm elated and miserable

all at the same time.

Despite that I am grinning from ear to ear. It has buoyed my

spirits, well at least until I have to drive in it. And, guaranteed

there will not be any school tomorrow. Around here 4 inches

constitutes a snow day, several feet of snow, who knows how long

school will be out.

14 hours straight and no sign of letting up. They are now saying the

biggest snow since 1964, and yes I was alive then and remember it,

though vaguely, I was four years old.
