Guest guest
You are right, the jargon is intimidating. And RDI is a " do over " of the parent/child relationship, something that is pretty much instinctive in most parents, but simple to " re-do " in autism? Not always. The piece we were missing, is where RDI has been extremely helpful, and that is identifying *where* exactly, our daughter *is*, and building foundations, moving forward from that point. We'd been stretching her too far, expecting too much, and she had few memories of competence. Watching ourselves with her on videotape, critiquing ourselves, and getting feedback from a consultant along the way has boosted our daughter's competence because we're giving her opportunities to experience " how people are " at the place she is ready for. Floortime was horrible for us. I hated every minute of it. Our daughter just closed circles. ABA and discreet trial--she learned everything we taught her, but the professionals guiding us didn't understand the foundations of communication development, and we skipped all the foundations and went straight to " talk " and got " talk " without reciprocity and meaning. Bizarre, what we did, actually. Anyway, thanks for listening. I'll stop now. There are for RDI all over the place--including homeschoolers.
