Guest guest
Hi, I am 41 & have had RA all my life. I have very severe RA that is still not completely in control. I have been on many meds throughout my life and have been on mtx injections for 2 years now. This has been the only med that has helped to get my RA under control. Although I have a severe case of RA I do not, Thank God, have any deformaties or have had to have surgery as of yet. I also have costochonritis/pleurisy which I had before starting mtx, which has been under control since taking the mtx. Mtx is not for everyone, I too was very scared and my husband was unconsolable to think that I would actually consider it, but after the improvement I gained within the first 3 months we decided that we would worry about the side effects when & if they occured. As long as I take it as prescribed and drink plenty of water, more than the usual for most people, I have not had any side effects and my bloodwork has been really good. Educate yourself on this & other RA meds that would be the alternative to mtx, then speak with your rheumy about them before you decide. I hope this helps. Good Luck & God Bless, Barbara nk19662000 wrote: i am 36 and recently diagnosed with ra.my doctor told me to take methrexate .when i read its side effects i became so worried and i dont want to take it. iwant to know that if i dont take it with in how much time i will become disable and if i take it i know i will have some liver or lungs problem i want to know the people who took it for more than a year . Guest guest
nk19662000, Hi! Im 27 and just got diagnosed with it as well. I was started on Prednisone and Plaquenil, but had an allergic reaction to the Plaquenil and I dont want to stay on the Prednisone because of the side effects Im already feeling. I start the Methotrexate this weekend and I have to say I am not looking forward to it either. I read about the side effects and wasnt too thrilled. In fact, Im downright scared, but Im going to take it. I refuse to let this disease get the best of me. There are many people that take MTX and have for years and its helping them. Im also starting Folic Acid and Calcium along with a multi-vitamin. Im not much into taking pills, but Im not much into pain either. LOL! Here is a link to another forum that I post on that might help you: www.arthritisinsight.com Then when you get in, register and click on " message boards " on the left hand side under " Community Center " or something like that. The posts are wonderful and there are a lot of people there who seem to frequent the site often so your posts will get answered fast and frequent. Its been the most helpful forum for me so far. I hope you get to feeling better soon! Meg
