Guest guest
Hi all, Hunter has been on Zoloft for a week now (12.5 mg). I don't know if it is the Zoloft, but it seems that the doctor mentioned it might cause some hyperactivity. Well he has certainly been hyper. I don't know what to do. I need to talk with his teacher, but I think he has been fine at school. But it seems he has been pushed over the edge to looking ADHD. I would have described him as lethargic for the most part previously. He seems to have all this energy now which is making me crazy. It is like a flashback to 3 and 4. He has been whining, demanding things, making messes, doing things like removing knobs from cabinets and drawers, pretending to be a dog. Maybe this is a phase that he would have gone through anyway, or maybe it would have been worse?? I felt like he was doing so well, but had some anxiety still. I was hoping the Zoloft would help. I plan to talk to the doctor tomorrow, but wondered if any of you have seen anything like this before. I am dreading Christmas break. Thanks for listening. Guest guest
When I took Zoloft it made me like that for 3 weeks then it slowly went away. I still had to stop it though because it never stopped making me nauseous. cugoodson@... wrote: > Hi all, > > Hunter has been on Zoloft for a week now (12.5 mg). Guest guest
Dear Carol, You may want to try lowering the dose to see if that helps. That's a pretty significant dose for such a young child. If that doesn't help, I would switch to another SSRI - a child may do well on one and horribly on another. My daughter does well on Prozac but when the doctor switched to Paxil (which I, myself tolerate nicely) she became very anxious and resisted many activities. I put her right back on Prozac and she's fine (very low dose - 2.5mg; she's nearly 8 years old/40 lbs). Good luck! Has he tried any others? Thanks, Carol
Guest guest
Ok, I know y'all are getting sick of hearing about it. But now wouldn't you know, I gave Hunter the Zoloft this morning, then called the neurologist later. He told me to take him off for about 5 days and see what happens, and he is having a great day (on it today). So now I am wondering if I should take him off. He is the antithesis of yesterday. He has been playing nicely and quietly since he got home, had a great day at school, this is day nine. This kid always keeps me guessing. Guest guest
No, we stayed away from drugs after a really bad experience with a neurologist and Depakene. Guest guest
I don't know if this would help you or not but my son was helped greatly by supplementing with clo and efa's. These 2 products (I started them together) were instrumental in helping him (17years) sleep better at night and mellow out. He doesn't fly off the handle like he used to. The efa I use is Udo's essential oil blend. The clo is Kirkman's cod liver oil capsules. --- In egroups, " Barb Romkema " <jromkema@f...> wrote: > No, we stayed away from drugs after a really bad experience with a > neurologist and Depakene. > Barb > Re: [ ] zoloft and hyperactivity > > > >In a message dated 12/5/00 7:53:06 AM Pacific Standard Time, > >jromkema@f... writes: > > > ><< We put my son on Zoloft at his request to see if it would help his stim > > behavior. Guest guest
Hi, I have three boys on SSRI's. After a great deal of practice, we have found a way to enter onto on without the hyperness. We start so very slowly... it takes a bit longer to see if they will respond well, but you miss the hyperness.. What we do is start at 1/8 of the target does for one week, then go up to 1/4 of the desired does for a week then stay at 3/4s for two weeks or more, then go on up to the full target dose. Hope this helps. Pam At 09:59 PM 12/4/00 -0600, you wrote: >When I took Zoloft it made me like that for 3 weeks then it slowly went away. Guest guest
Hi - Do be sure to describe in an update (even if it's not time for one) whether your child is hyper or zoney on the Zoloft. Hyperness can often require an immediate change, or an additional med. Usually he wants to know right away, so don't wait. Good luck - We just landed happily on Zoloft ourselves after a horrible visit with another SSRI. If I had updated sooner, we would have been spared a couple of weeks of agony. --- meljackmom <meljackmom@...> wrote: > My son was very hyper on zoloft, and he became an > insomniac.
