Guest guest
On the subject of been there and still doing that. is still having a great deal of trouble in this area. Is Tara able to keep her tongue in at rest. If not our speech therapist recommended using the NUK brush to do tongue taps and that really helped. Now he rarely does this - only if he is anxious he will play with his tongue. As far as feeding we still have trouble with spitting out food textures. He has such a defensiveness to any textures especially in his mouth. Our therapist described it as what it feels like to have a few grains of sand in your mouth - with it like a mouthful. What has worked and is working is continuing the tongue tapping and oral stimulation but also when I put food into his mouth(no he doesn't feed himself - he will do it for his babysitter and his speech therapist) I put the food mid way back and press down on his tongue. When I was finally showed this it made a tremendous difference. It seems he was having trouble with the gag reflex and for a long time we had to add applesauce or something like that to make the food smoothly go down. I don't know if this helps, but you could try. Good Luck she sounds like she is doing wonderful.Oh and thanks for the suggestion for the party -its great.
