Guest guest
Hi to everyone, This weekend Saretta and I went away for a one night mom's get away in the mountains. There were 8 moms - 6 of which have a child with DS.The other two were the Physical therapist who has the cabin and invited us all and the other is her friend and office manager. It was really wonderful! Saretta and I were the only ones with twins and we had the oldest children. The other Mom's kids were from 6 mos. to 17 mos. It brought up a lot of memories and stories of that first year - good and bad and we were able to share information like the list. It was such a lovely thing to do for all the Moms and a very welcome retreat except for getting very very little sleep as we talked (at least Saretta and I did) early into the morning. So speaking of sleeping, seemed to sleep about the same as Greyson as an infant - sometimes more sometimes less but basically I didn't notice much difference. Now Greyson has given up naps and is starting to give them up. Sometimes if he is very active at school or playing outside or working with therapist - he gets very tired. I gathered its from th low tone and he just has to work so much harder to do things that Greyson and Annice do with ease. The boys sleep in one huge bed together - two twin beds pushed together. they love sleeping with each other and on top of each other at times. is the one who snuggles in close to Greyson. they usually go to bed at about 7:30 - 8:00pm and wake at around 7:30pm. If does get up first, he just gets off the bed and quietly looks at books till we go in and get him. He does the same with naps and sometimes falls asleep in the rocking chair with a book. Greyson always stays in the bed till we get him (can't imagine why he doesn't get up to play). I guess he like to wake up slow and is content to stay in bed - me too! Annice on the other hand screams like crazy till we go in and get her. She also is always throwing her pacificer out of the crib then wanting it. I actually am really looking forward to putting her in a bed so she can get down and play so hopefully we can sleep a bit more. As far as our school saga goes - will stay in his regular preschool with greyson and hopefully by christmas (not holding my breath) we will start to get services for ie: a community ed. teacher and therapists. We have a woman from Lekotek now comming at our expense once a week to help the teachers include him in classroom activities. She goes in like a classroom volunteer and plays with all the kids but makes suggestions to the teachers about and stops him from being left alone too much and self stimming. She stays about 2 hours. I am hoping this will work for us. I went back a second tome to the school assigned and I was still very unhappy with what I saw and how the children were treated. The woman, Beth from Lekotck was a little worried about being overwhelmed and left out so we'll see how it goes. The county public ed. system is very slow and since we are not doing what they recommend she informed me it will take some time before services can be put in place. thats about it for now.
