Guest guest
I hope it's ok to post this. I found these posts by Terry Poling in another group. They are from 2001 but give some insight as to what what happening with their daughter then. RecoveredKids/message/5710 high fever makes daughter lose autistic symptoms Has anyone ever experienced this? My nearly three year old daughter hasregressive autism (and mitochondrial PDD according to the medicalexperts--but dont let that fool you, probably every other regressive autismcase has mitochondrial pdd). Anyway, she had severe diarrhea for 2 weeks and was about to go into thehospital when she was put on flagyl and the diarrhea stopped but when the flagyl was nearly done she developed a 103-104 axillary temperature for nearly five days. She had every test known to man during that time and only by miracle was she not actually admitted but spentevery day almost all day as an outpatient in the pediatric portion of thehospital. Her metabolic condition made the fevers scary however the higherthe fever, the more focused she was and she was talking like she never hasbefore. She obeyed all instructions, sat quietly in a chair while waiting, and in the early am she would get 100% on her ABA! She would not get ABAthrough the rest of the day because she was usually being poked by hospitalpersonell etc but even then she would say, "all done" "please". It wasjust eerie. Had i told the hospital staff that she was autistic they wouldnot have believed me. The same held true for a educational consultant whocame to evaluate hannah the day before the fever started. She said in herreport that she saw absolutely no autistic behaviors and that she wouldassume hannah was autistic based on the many medical reports as well asschool reports she had seen! This was truly amazing to me. Even when shewas just having problems with diarrhea, she was more focused. She haspractically potty trained herself because of it. Anyway, wondered if anyoneelse experienced this. WOuld like to have doc prescribe a fever if therewere no other issues to deal with (HAHAH). terryRecoveredKids/message/5267 I agree but not wholeheartedly. I think that each parent must decide for themselves based on an informed decision. My daughter developed encephalopathy, mitochondrial disorder and autism after receiving MMR, DPT, Polio, Chicken pox, and Hib at one time (because she had been ill for nearly a year, she was behind). I am a nurse and an attorney. My husband is a neurologist and a scientist. I questioned the number of vaccines but not the vaccines themselves. I was treated like a bad mother for not wanting to vaccinate my daughter will all 9 at once. Now i can never take back that day. Most medical people have not been trained regarding such issues as safety in vaccines, etc. Now i ask myself a year later, is it really all that much more hot of an issue than a year ago, or does it seem so because i know about it? I think it is both. You can guarentee that all of our medical and political friends know about it though. As to immunizing. It is true. There is no guarentee that the immunization will stop your child from contracting the virus. The vaccine companies try to say that if everyone is not vaccinated the effect of those vaccinated is less--this makes absolutely no sense whatsoever and i guarentee you that they have not actually studied this (they have not even studied the efficacy or safety, let alone dimished effect. Really, the only way to obliterate a disease via vaccines is to vaccinate everybody--or at least so "they" say. That is not likely however because "they" admit that it does not "work" for everybody. Besides, vaccinating everybody is NEVER going to happen so......you have one child that has autism--if it was due to the vaccines or something in them, then its possible your next child could.....at the same time, whatever biological or genetic predisposition our children may have for reacting may also be the same for the disease itself. In otherwords, perhaps my daughter with multiple ear infections and 3 myringotomies, (prior to dietary changes etc), might not fare well contracting the measles virus. She might be the one with the encephalopathy from it. And, contrary to what people may say, measles can be very debillitating unlike chicken pox. Of course, it makes sense then that she certainly should not be made to fight off three to five viruses at once. Tell your doctor that instead of you providing evidence that giving the MMR separtely will diminish the chance of autism. Tell him/her to give you scientific evidence that giving the MMR all at one time is safe FOR YOUR CHILD and, evidence that separating them is going to increase your childs chance of contracting the disease not vaccinated for (since the actual ages of vaccination are all arbitrary anyway. On another note. Someone at my daughter's school brought up a point about tetanus. According to him, to get tetanus for example from a dirty nail, the nail would have to have horse maneur on it! If that is true, most city people are not in harms way of tetanus. I can tell you that i have had more than my share of tetanus shots and immunoglobulin, extra measles from my days as an ICU nurse. makes you wonder..... I am just saying that i would be very careful, it is not an easy answer. I probably will not immunize my children again. In fact, our geneticist at s Hopkins said he did not think that i should...In his view it was the pertussus on the DPT that hurt hannah. The vaccine companies tend to make it easy right now because they have been harming our children and lying to the public as well as the medical profession with their tainted "studies" not just vaccines. Good luck. terry poling
Guest guest
Another post... this one from 2003RecoveredKids/message/9708 As far as funding, I know that it is hard to see the drug companies pay money into research. I do know docs that speak for drug companies but they cover all the meds for a particular disease in their talks with other docs. If they do not agree that the drug is best for certain conditions, on the whole, they say so. Not every person or industry is out to make a buck at any expense. We cannot always hear exactly what we want to hear and complain of bias when we don't. For example, why is it that SAFE MINDS wants the drug manufacturers of the vaccines containing mercury to pay for the studies to show it is safe? That is the same conflict of interest. If they did, and found it to be safe, would we then say it was not accurate? If they found it to be dangerous though, it would be okay. If so why bother asking them the question. I think if we want to appear fair we must be willing to accept the research, find the flaws and bias' like any project and weigh all the evidence when it comes in. Don't get me wrong, I do believe that the vaccines caused my daughter's confirmed mitochondrial disease (mitochondrial PDD, Encephalopathy with language regression and features of ASD, full blown autism). I am also a nurse and an attorney. I get very angry and pessimistic about what I read but I also catch myself not wanting to hear anything that does not agree with my "knowledge". I try to sit back and take it all in—I have developed several gray hairs in less than a year! I just tell myself to tell as many people as possible to be very careful---it is all going to come out eventually. It may take awhile because everyone sticks their heads in the sand but 10 years from now a new generation of kids will be appalled at what our society did to our children. Can you imagine the kids going around with aspergers? Road rage will run rampant when people get angry for an "insensitive, irresponsible citizen", etc. It will be too hard for our country to ignore and too embarrassing to do nothing about. Remember it is affecting everybody and will until it is stopped and our children are gone. I just pray that they decide to figure out a way to help my child before I am gone.
