Guest guest
Stacey, Good luck on the Enbrel. The shots are very easy to give yourself. The first time I did it at my RD's office with him watching, from then on I was on my own. I never had any problems, just wished it would have worked. Tery - FL P. S. Guest guest
Well, it looks like I will probably start it next week on Tuesday. So I am anxiously awaiting it! For the first few weeks I have to go in to the injection room and they will show me how to inject myself. Once I learn that though, it will be more convenient. I will let everyone know how it goes! Guest guest
Hi, Jeff. For some medications you need to taper off instead of quitting all at once. Prednisone is probably the most familiar example of a drug that can be life-threatening if you stop it abruptly. I suggest reducing the amount of Vicodin till you have some manageable level of pain, and when the pain gets a lot better then reduce some more. (You can reduce the dosage by cutting pillis in half or by taking every other day.) Good luck and God bless. ----- Original Message ----- From: jeffgrocka Rheumatoid Arthritis Sent: Friday, May 02, 2003 9:14 PM Subject: Starting Enbrel Well I did it. On Wed. of last week I started on my Enbrel. My rhumey said it should be working in 6 weeks. Is this the case for most people? I heard it could take up to 3 months. I was just wondering how long it took for other people. I asked about methotrexate (sp?) and she said I may not need it. I thought it was better as a combo. I am still on my vicodin and am afraid that I won't know when the Enbrel is working but can't stop the Vicodin. I ran out last weekend and it was a very long weekend. I don't like taking it because it makes me really edgey (and that is putting it lightly). Sorry I am rambling. The last thing I want to say is to people that are considering taking Enbrel but are afraid of giving yourself the shots. I went to the docs office to learn howand almost threw up trying to give it to myself, but I did it and it realy was easy and it didn't hurt. YEAH!!! I now am on a Wed. Sat. Schudle. Well I will stop know. Take Care all. Jeff R
Guest guest
Hi all Well yesterday was the bigh day for me to start the Enbrel injections. I didn't think it was bad at all. Very easy to do and no pain from injection. I didn't notice anything yesterday but today I have been feeling very tired and do have considerable diarrhea (sorry for the details). Has anyone had similar experiences with Enbrel when first trying it. I remain hopeful and hope to have more positive results to report. The parvovirus seems to be leaving slowly but my knees are still pretty bad. I am starting physical therapy next week.Thaks for listenning. Guest guest
, Enbel is a very new biologic DMARD. It was approved by the US FDA (Food and Drug Admin) 12/23/02. It has some potentialy life threatening sideeffects but what drug doesn't. It is effective on about 66% of adult patients, 75% with JRA and helps Psiatic Arthritis. For more information use a serach engine and type in Enbrel and lots of sites pop up for you to research. I finally get to see a rheumy the 27th, after waitning scine April. I am hoping he will prescibe Enbrel, Remicade, or one of the other biologic DMARDs for me. My Dr. is doing what he can but I don't think the 10mg of Methotrexate is a large enough dosageto control my RA. If it wasn't for Prednisone 20 - 25 mg daily and Percocet I wouldn't be able to function. Guest guest
Hi everyone, Enbrel was approved before 2002. I took it in late 99/early 2000 and wasn't in a clinical trial or anything. Guest guest
Steph, I was mistaken. I read the information wrong. It was a pharmecutical company that got FDA approval to make Enbrel on the date I gave. I apoligize for not paying attention to detail and giving out erroneous information. Guest guest
I have used Enbrel 50 mg/weekly for 3 1/2 years. Initially I had some fatigue, but my rheumy felt it was caused by my R.A., rather than the Enbrel. I feel that the burning sensation of the injection is a small price to pay for putting me into remission. Guest guest
--- Thanks for the input. I can handle the injection site burning sensation. I just wasn't sure if it caused nausea or stomach issues. Thanks for the info. Les > > I have used Enbrel 50 mg/weekly for 3 1/2 years. Guest guest
--- Thanks everyone, it appears that the bulk of everyone on Enbrel have had good experiences. It puts my anxiety level down a notch or two. Guest guest
Les, I'm on the 25mg twice-weekly Enbrel, and I have no burning sensation when I inject it. Also, it seems to last longer for me than the once-weekly did. I've been on Enbrel for over three years, and have had no adverse side effects. Occasionally I have a mild injection site reaction, but it's usually about like a mosquito bite and doesn't last very long at all.
