Guest guest
http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/571496 I could not find a place on the Medscape page to respond to the above article, so I am sending my comments to you. Perhaps you will follow this story up, especially in pressing for the full background information in this case before we simply allow people who are threatened by Hannah's award to sweep it under the rug. " A news release from the US Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) states that while the government cannot publicly disclose details of a specific case without the consent of the individuals involved, it " has reviewed the scientific information concerning the allegation that vaccines cause autism and has found no credible evidence to support the claim. " And whose consent is lacking to make public the details? The Polings? After they have held press conferences, conducted interviews and made an appearance on Larry King? Hmmmm... Could it be HRSA that refuses consent? After all, the US govt. stands to lose big should the details of Hannah's experience prove to be more common than the 1 in a million the vaccinologists are so desperate for us to believe. " According to Bregman, MD, chair of the committee on developmental disabilities of the American Psychiatric Association (APA), it is known that this child has a rare underlying mitochondrial condition and received a number of vaccines at once, which is also atypical, and subsequently developed autismlike symptoms. " The truth is, we do not know how many people have mitochondrial disorders, especially in the sub-population of autistics. According to experts in the field there are over a hundred of these conditions, and genetic tests are only available for a couple dozen. Further more, the only study of its kind conducted in Portugal found 5 out of 69 autistic children had mitochondrial disorders. And the statement that multiple vaccines are not given at once is also false. The is a far more common happening than many people realise, as the number of shots a child is expected to get went from 10 in the early 80's to three dozen in 2006. A child will receive 4 or more shots on their 2 mo visit, their 4 mo visit, their 6 mo visit and again when they are 12-15 mo and it is time for their MMR. And Hannah was most certainly auitistic. She was diagnosed as such by a leading expert at Kennedy-Krieger Institute, a neuroilogist who also happens to teach at Hopkins. To try and divert attention from this by dismissing her state of being as " having autistic like behaviors " is a poor attempt at the same sleight of hand a carny will use when pocketing a coin to make it disappear. " " When someone in his [McCain's] position makes those kinds of strong statements, it is such a misuse of power. " No, that is not abuse of power. Whether or not it is a foolish statement, misplaced concern, populist grandstanding or even (as some would opine) an act of sedition is fair game for armchair debates. Abuse of power is when people find themselves in positions of public trust and shift the focus of their efforts from serving their clients to enriching themselves. Such as the personnel at the CDC and FDA, who enjoy employment in the only regulatory agency for whom standards of conflict of interest are routinely waived, who are permitted to partner with the industries they are suppose to monitor, and who place far stronger efforts at damage-control PR than they do in disseminating the cutting edge research which exposes the underside of the products they promote. ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Never miss a thing.
