Guest guest
Hi : I know it is frustrating hurting all the time and not knowing what or why. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia a year ago. It took my rheumy quite a few months to finally find a medication that worked with the pain. I am a medical transcriptionist and have typed a lot of reports about fibromyalgia. I told my doc when he diagosed it that I didn't have time or the patience for that kind of diagnosis. He laughed and told me to keep that attitude because it would help. They are finding out that poor sleep habits and stress can cause this. I was going through a separation from my husband (still separated) and didn't sleep much. I started to hurt especially in my right hip and lower back, then my arm and leg muscles hurt. I literally felt like a truck had hit me and backed up over me again. Finally he started me on Neurontin which is an antiseizure drug and after gradually upping the dose it started working. I am supposed to take 900 mg three times a day but with the price the way it is (I have no insurance at the moment) I cut back to save on money. With the cut back I am back to hurting again so hopefully can get insurance soon so I can afford it. He also put me on several different trials of sleep medicine. The first two made me gain 35 pounds and that is a no-no for fibromyalgia because the added weight makes you hurt worse. Anyway I am now on Gabitril for sleep and it really helps a lot. On nights I sleep straight through I feel much better the next morning. So with Gabitril and Neurontin I can usually live with the aches and pains in my muscles. Get with your rheumy and if he knows a lot about the treatment of fibromyalgia he should be able to find medications that will help. Also a good exercise program is absolutely a must with fibromyalgia. Just go very slow with it and don't over do it. If you push yourself to hurting while exercising then you will hurt for several days afterwards so go slow. Hope this helps. There are thousands of us out here with fibromyalgia so don't give up. Guest guest
Debby, my rheumy gave me T3 and flexeril for now to get me out of this severe part. I am to start neurontine here soon. I haven't gotten it filled just yet. Have to wait for payday. Right now my attitude is not a good one. I am severely depressed. Over four years ago I had a tramatic experience that has made sleeping at night almost impossible without the aid of sedatives and since then I have been DX with SLE, RA, and now FMS. Like I wrote earlier, you could make alphabet soup with all that I have been DX'ed with. I am doing PT twice a week right now. That's until my insurance company's allowable amount of appointments are up. That's about 4 more sessions. My Rheumy wants massage therapy but my insurance doesn't cover that at all. > Hi : I know it is frustrating hurting all the time and not > knowing what or why.
