Guest guest
Noah aged 1 (but more delayed than most children with DS) is really into crinkly things at the moment. His EI teacher suggested we get a metallic helium balloon (not blown up!) he loves to scrunch this up and apparently it can be washed. It has no sharp edges so seems to be pretty safe and its wonderful for carrying in my handbag as it folds up so small. He also likes metallic type wrapping papers but I'm a bit more worried he might cut his mouth on them. I just bought some fluorescent lime green netting material very cheap ( I guess nobody had a use for such horrible stuff!) and he likes to roll around feeling this too. He does have plenty of conventional toys too and his current favourite is a wedge shape cushion by IQ toys that has a mirror (flexible) one side and an activity centre the other. This is just the right size to wedge between his hands and legs when he tries to sit up and he can prop on it with his hands rather than folding himself into a little heap if he tries to prop on the floor. (I'm not sure you can follow this rather odd description- but it's a suggestion from "gross motor skills in chuildren with DS" which is an excellent book from Woodbine press) NZ mum to 7 including Lily 12 and Noah 1 with DS
