I think had difficulty understanding this particular girl because she spoke VERY fast and for the most part, her speech was unclear. I think you are right, the parents knew what she was saying but fortunately did a lot of translating. The parents explained that she was speaking so fast because she was incredibly excited being on holiday in New Zealand. There is a lovely young man working in a supermarket where I shop. He has Ds and I have taken to using sign language with him as I can't understand ANYTHING he says - to my utter embarrassment! He is in his 20's and had no intervention ever. His mother explained that in those days, she had to fight just to take him home when he was born and there was no intervention programs when he was growing up. I feel so lucky that Emma and Nicki were born into this generation even though we still have to battle. Take care!
