Update: Pharmacies compounding Nandrolone ('Deca')

The most difficult thing right now is that the DEA is making compounding pharmacies responsible for misuse of prescriptions from doctors. For some strange reason, the DEA expects the compounding industry to double checks if a prescription is medically justified. This is not the job of a pharmacy. Only doctors know if something is medically justified when used on or off label. Every quarter, the DEA would come in these pharmacies unannounced and collect all records, take them to their offices and hold them there for weeks for review. When they find a prescription that may be unjustified, the try to penalize the pharmacy instead of the doctor who wrote it. That is the reason Applied Pharmacy is closing down...just too much work and the craziness of being punished for things out of their control.

I see the day when people with HIV will have to get nandrolone from the black market if we do not step up.

Here is an updated list of pharmacies compounding nandrolone decanoate, known previously by the trade name Deca Durabolin.

Sadly, Applied Pharmacy is now out of business due to DOJ pressure. This should be a warning to us all. Unless we defend out health care options, we will lose them one by one.

We have also added, thanks to the work of our friend Larry, the information on the compounding pharmacy used by Kaiser Hospitals in California.

At certain times I think we in the HIV community have forgotten the lessons of how we have managed to survive to this day. We did it by fighting and demanding medical options. Acting-up, to coin a phrase. It's an election year, and our politicians in Washington DC have decided to take on the steroid menace to American Sports, since it appears that nothing else need their attention.

But, many of us who are HIV Positive and many who suffer from extensive burns , MS and cancer cachexia need these very same steroids and other hormones, to maintain out health; in some cases to simply stay alive.

If we don't speak-up now on our own behalf, we will surely see fewer and fewer doctors able to withstand the political pressures and soon we will see huge constraints on our doctors' ability to dispense medical care and write prescriptions as they think best. Do you really want a politician or a DOJ official having the final word on your health care?

If you want to help protect your medical options, write to Henry A. Waxman, the Chairman of the Congressional House Committee on Government Oversight and Reform and tell him the following things in your own words.

As it happens I went to Kaiser today to pick up my nadralone. It turns out ADAP dosesn't cover compounded medications. (Surprise!) This is for California, but since we have probably the most progressive ADAPs in the country, I doubt it's better any where else. My cost was only 11 plus change, since I am a Kaiser member. I also may have screwed up my original information re: price. It's $300 for 10cc's or $30/cc. Sorry about that.
