Statins for every diabetic?

Well, it may be true, however I find the results a little less impressive than the media. They note:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/7180733.stm After five years, 42 fewer people with diabetes had major problems, such as heart attacks or stroke, for every 1,000 treated with statins. This means that the benefit is seen in a tiny fraction of the population (less than one-half of 1%) - and they are not so clear on the risks. Another way to put it is that 968 people taking statins didn't see any benefit.Does anyone have a copy, however, of the original article? And do the individuals undertaking the study have identified conflicts of interest? The good thing is that atorvastatin will be a generic shortly so at least people won't continue to be raped by Pfizer on the price.  M.
