Guest guest
hello everyone...hope you all are doing ok... i just wanted to ask if anyone has had any success with plaquenil...i started taking them a week ago and i can't believe how fast they are working....my rheumy prescribed them to me a long time ago, and i kept putting off taking them...i was in denial because my bloodwork was negative.. and didn't think i needed anything like that...last week i got scared because i could hardly walk because my feet were so tender when they touched the floor and my knees were so swollen...i decided i didn't want to end up staying in bed so i broke down and took the plaquenil about 7 days ago.. i'm walking much better and my knees don't seem as swollen..i feel better except the chronic fatigue still follows me around all day long and i'd love to wake up one morning feeling rested. just wondering if plaquenil has helped any of you and if there are side effects to look out for... thanks for listening and i really wish you all strength to bear your pain.. patty
Guest guest
I noticed the same thing now that I'm back on Plaquenil again. For me though, it subsided after about a month. I have IBS too... seems to be pretty common. If it is IBS and not just the meds make sure you're eating a high fibre, low fat (but not no fat) diet. I find that's the best " treatment " for me. As long as I keep my fibre up things run smoothly with out running too often! ;-) Also with IBS gas and bloating can be a problem. If you find yourself with those symptoms as well (which can be pretty painful!) try Peppermint tea. It's very good for digestion and helps ease the cramping/bloating/gas. Take care - hope things are feeling better soon! Lynn
Guest guest
i like the peppermint tea, too, but i find including ginger root in my daily regimen is a great help for stomach problems as well as a stimulant. it is also an anti inflamitory. can be put in cereal, teas, or encapsulated... also for the stomach and bowels acidophilus, DGL and enzymes help treendousl with digestion. i was changed from plaquenil to others then now take Naproxine. not totally painless, but better than not at all.love.. grany lee PS.. i also include about a tsp of cinnamin daily.. or almost daily...you know how that is.. lucky if remember to take the ones i feel i have to take! ----- Original Message ----- From: Lynn Rheumatoid Arthritis snip..... with IBS gas and bloating can be a problem. Guest guest
Sierra, I take plaquenil and I take prozac and I feel fine but u need to call ur DR and tell him how u are feeling. All meds you take make you thirsty, so drink a lot of water. Take care. Lucy snowdrift52003 <snowdrift52003@...> wrote: When I take Plaquenil, I can feel it "go to my head" about an hourafterward. Guest guest
Sierra, I've been on Plaquenil for over 2 years & I can tell you from my experience that I'm not as mentally sharp, either. I figured it was because of the excruciating pain of RA that caused this. I also know what you mean about being 'off'. For instance, one day my husband & I were unloading groceries from the trunk of the car. He goes to close the trunk & I put my arm in the way. I wasn't hit with the truck because he realized my arm was there. Granted, I know better but it's like this RA has done something to me (mentally). I'm still able to work & to others I seem to be 'ok' but I know that there's a mental change in me. I haven't mentioned this to my Rheumatologist because I don't want to be put through a bunch of tests to find out there's 'nothing wrong'. I really haven't noticed that the Plaquenil makes me more thirsty. I'm a 'water junkie' to begin with so I didn't notice if I drink more or not. > When I take Plaquenil, I can feel it " go to my head " about an hour > afterward. Guest guest
Sierra, I take 400mg daily and feel nothing at all after taking it. I think I have a good tolerance for drugs as the only problem I've ever had from any of my RA meds is from oral Methotrexate. I would think that after a month you would get over it but meds affect people differently. Have you discussed it with you Dr. or his/her nurse? Best of luck, Jay > When I take Plaquenil, I can feel it " go to my head " about an hour > afterward. Guest guest
I've never noticed fatigue.I don't remember what it was like in the beginning. I would say it is more likely a flare that brought on the fatigue. > > From: " Darlene Ashcraft " <luvtoknit@...> > Date: 2006/04/28 Fri PM 07:34:25 CDT > undisclosed-recipients@... > Subject: plaquenil > > I started taking plaquenil yesterday and ever since then I have been totally > exhausted. Guest guest
Darlene, I have a friend who is on Plaquenil, and she was exhausted for the first few weeks. I, myself , am on methotrexate and already having problems. I think with any RA drug, there are tons of side effects Medlissa Darlene Ashcraft <luvtoknit@...> wrote: I started taking plaquenil yesterday and ever since then I have been totally exhausted. Guest guest
fatigue is part of the RA - but the meds can also drain you. I'm on methotrexate but don't experience fatigue from that - just from the RA/fibro Helen P NW OHIO > I started taking plaquenil yesterday and ever since then I have been totally> exhausted.
