Guest guest
I have a question about Spiro...Have you had any hair loss? Or facial hair loss? Not sure if you started out with any facial hair in the first place...I have had very persistent and thick facial hair since puberty, I am hoping if my Doc puts me on Spiro the facial hair will lighten.I am a red head so I can get away with only shaving every other day instead of everyday. My identical twin sister has this issue too, hers is even thicker than mine.(she just got her ratio tested and shes fine, lucky sucker only had BP problems before she lost 60lbs.) Mine went UP when I lost my weight....i see the doc in less than an hour and hoping he will put me on spiro even tho my saline suppression results were iffy. Guest guest
How long have you been on Spiro? Have you tried Eplerenone? It sounds you are having a known reaction and the pain should qualify you for the switch. I would not wait if I were you. I didn't have pain so it took me 18 months for them to switch me. Guest guest
I tried Inspra for a whole year. It didn't get my BP down. I was very sick with side effects from Inspra. Guest guest
With Spiro I have added one cup size to my breasts, which I don't want, but buying new clothes is better than having a stroke any day. Before I started Spiro I had massive hair loss, starting from my legs and over the space of about 10 years, traveling up my body to the hair on my head. Once I started Spiro and Dashing the loss almost stopped. I still don't have to shave my legs, but I'm no longer afraid of going completely bald. Luckily I had very thick head hair so losing a third of it still leaves me with a fairly normal looking head of hair.In the last couple of months I had cut my Spiro down to 50mg a day and it seemed like I started losing more hair again and my BP was more difficult to control, so I've gone back to 75mg of Spiro and my BP is reliably down again and my hair loss down also. That's a statistic of one, so it may all be coincidence. Just throwing it out for what it's worth. Dianne 69, bi-lateral adenomas 1.2cm rt, 1cm left 25yr hx of HBP and low K. Previously on 5 BP meds & 80MEQ K with ever increasing BP Diagnosed myself via Internet July 2010 Had to demand tests to confirm PA, from scoffing NP CKD. Kidney function fell after use of contrast dye during CT scan 8/2010. Now on 75mg Spiro, 12.5mg Atenolol BP avg. 130/70 Dashing with very low Na (aim for 1,000mg) and high enough K to keep me in range, but not so high as to further damage kidneys. For the record, I've been on spiro for probably 10 years and never had any problems. I've never had sore or engorged boobs and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Not sure if you started out with any facial hair in the first place... I have had very persistent and thick facial hair since puberty, I am hoping if my Doc puts me on Spiro the facial hair will lighten. I am a red head so I can get away with only shaving every other day instead of everyday. My identical twin sister has this issue too, hers is even thicker than mine.(she just got her ratio tested and shes fine, lucky sucker only had BP problems before she lost 60lbs.) Mine went UP when I lost my weight.... i see the doc in less than an hour and hoping he will put me on spiro even tho my saline suppression results were iffy. Guest guest
Hi, When I was on Spira I had breast pain, it was most acute in the week prior to my period starting. Spira made my hair start falling out (hair on my head--I don't have excessive hair growth issues elsewhere). I went off Spira because of the hair loss and nausea and diarrhea. Switched to Inspra. Still have breast pain, but only prior to period now. Hair loss lessened, and not the same issues with stomach upset. I would talk with your doctor. Guest guest
Diane, If your kidney function falls say, after a difficult hospitalization not related to the kidney, would a slightly low GFR come back up? If it falls after a MRI with contrast, will it ever go back up? Mine came in at 55 in April and I just did a whole kidney panel today. Val From: hyperaldosteronism [mailto:hyperaldosteronism ] On Behalf Of Dianne strongDianne69, bi-lateral adenomas 1.2cm rt, 1cm left25yr hx of HBP and low K. Previously on 5 BP meds & 80MEQ K with ever increasing BP Diagnosed myself via Internet July 2010Had to demand tests to confirm PA, from scoffing NPCKD. Kidney function fell after use of contrast dye during CT scan 8/2010.Now on 75mg Spiro, 12.5mg AtenololBP avg. 130/70Dashing with very low Na (aim for 1,000mg) and high enough K to keep me in range, but not so high as to further damage kidneys. .
