Yes, I am a member of that group as well. However, that group strictly prohibits the discussion of anything other than LDN and I really wanted to get some input from people who are using it as part of their antiviral protocol. I wanted to know if people use LDN instead of Valtrex, OLE, Virastop, or in addition, or somewhere along the way....

Thanks,

Sheryl

there is a LDN group run by Dr. McCandles whre you can learn more about it. The Schwartz Family <ams1088@...> wrote:

I know many of you are using Valtrex, and then following up with either Virastop and OLE, or visa versa. If I understand correctly, you want to combat as many different viruses that may be laying dormant in your child's body by using a multi antiviral approach. However, I do not hear a great deal about LDN and was wondering if any of you are currently using it in addition to Valtrex, Virastop, OLE, or are considering using it before or after another antiviral for the same reason?

Hi Sheryl;

My daughter has been on LDN for about 5 months now. I plan on doing an OLE/Virastop trial shortly (if my DAN won't prescribe valtrex).

Being part of the LDN group, you know that many kids show improvements after starting (behavioural, sleep, social). My daughter has not responded positively or negatively to LDN. Actually, she IS getting more frequent colds/flus (every 2 weeks lately) and I think it may be due to the LDN.

So I will be doing an antiviral treatment course in addition to using the LDN. Hope this helps!

Kim :-)

Sheryl,

LDN isn't an antiviral. It is supposed to rebalance your immune

system. Many of our kids are thought to have a th1/th2 shift. That

is, they are unable to mount effective th1 cellular responses,

therefore unable to clear viruses, because their TH2 response is the

dominant one. This can be a result of mercury toxicity or

immunizations. Either way, LDN is supposed to help re-establish that

balance.

I just mentioned in another post that if I were doing this all over

again, I would want to have LDN in place for a few months before

starting the viral protocol. Not saying that one cannot work without

the LDN, but if my child has this underactive TH1 response, and I

think he does, then the LDN would have made the viral protocol more

effective, IMO. There are a number of OTC supps that can help the

TH1/TH2 balance as well. My son has used many of those for quite some

time, and I am hopeful that they have helped him.

LDN, from my reading, can cause quite strong reactions in some kids.

Sometimes great ones, sometimes not so great on the way to great

ones. I wouldn't start LDN and antivirals at the same time. That

would be problematic for many kids, IMO.

I think it would be easier (and more accurate) if you read this

article rather than me putting it in my own words. The list is

about 2/3 of the way down. It also talks about the influence of

food too, which I found to be very helpful.

I hope this helps.

TH1 and TH2 are two kinds of immune system responses we have. In a

healthy person, we should be able to switch back and forth between

them, depending on the circumstances. The theory is (and it is just

a theory, and maybe a simplistic one at that according to many

people who would be a million times more qualified to talk about

this than I am) that our kids have TH2 dominance. That is, no

matter what the situation, their immune system will respond in a TH2

manner. This is a bad thing.

If you want to read more, try this article:

http://www.diagnose-me.com/cond/C104791.html

There is no test for TH1/TH2 as far as I know.

If you'd like a bit more information, I have placed a file on

viruses and autism at autism treatment and enzymes and autism

groups. Both are excellent groups and if you join them you have

access to their files. In the file it explains a bit about what you

might notice in a child with a TH2 dominance and gives a bit of

background information.

I hope this helps,
