Guest guest
You might not want to ask me how respond to the proverbial dumb question of, " How did you get hepatitis C? " . I have little to no tolerance for rudeness, not to mention stupidity. I can't imagine asking someone how they got any disease........ fer cripes sake. > > > > Hi, everyone I have been with this group a long time do not say > much but on > > this 1 I have to put in my opinion Docs are human they put on there > pant the > > same way we all do I live in northwest Georgia so talk about people > looking > > down on you because of stigma I agree with flannergy about how when > you are > > young you do things that you probably would not do when you get > older I went > > thru 3 docs before I found 1 my doc is a Chinese / American he > treats the > > disease no matter how you contracted it, hang in there everyone > > .............................Jody in GA. > > > > > > > > > > > > It's a pleasure having you join in our conversations. Guest guest
you should read how I respond to the question: " How did you get Hep C? " . Indignant doesn't even cover it. Guest guest
: It's one thing to disclose to a physician how you think you contracted the disease, it's another to answer to rude people whom you tell you are sick with the disease. It pisses me off that the disease is becoming so stigmatized that either the general public thinks you got it cause you shot dope or (I'm telling you, people are ignorant) you contracted it sexually (yeah, they really are thinking that). The public is less than educated and it's really up to all of us to educate them. Right now, I just have very little tolerance for stupidity. Also, it certainly doesn't HELP when there are news articles like this: http://news./s/nm/20060515/us_nm/four_million_infected_with_hepatitis_c\ _us_dc that focus on IV drug use. They don't even mention tatoos. We have a cousin that went though treatment over 6 years ago and he NEVER used IV drugs, never had a blood transfusion, but he did get tatoos years ago. Go figure. Had to be the tatoo needles! I personally, will NOT be shamed with this disease. If someone thinks they have a right to judge me because of this disease, they are foolishly wrong and it's their problem. I'm just sticking to the public toilet seat theory......... > > > > > > Hi, everyone I have been with this group a long time do not say > > much but on > > > this 1 I have to put in my opinion Docs are human they put on there > > pant the > > > same way we all do I live in northwest Georgia so talk about people > > looking > > > down on you because of stigma I agree with flannergy about how when > > you are > > > young you do things that you probably would not do when you get > > older I went > > > thru 3 docs before I found 1 my doc is a Chinese / American he > > treats the > > > disease no matter how you contracted it, hang in there everyone > > > .............................Jody in GA. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > It's a pleasure having you join in our conversations. Guest guest
And therein lies the rub. That was my entire point, the article is focused on IV drug users and how are the people that contracted it via blood transfusions supposed to feel when they are diagnosed, have to tell friends, family & employers when the stupid media is stigmatizing this disease. It's crap. Granted, the people who contracted it via a blood transfusion don't have the feelings of guilt associated with someone who used IV drugs and considering that the disease could have been transmitted via tatoo needles, is this going to mean that everyone who has old tatoos are going to become " suspect " ? Will they be singled out in their community or neighborhoods as someone who " might be sick and contagious " ? Finding out you have this disease is depressing enough, reading the focus that's being applied to public education of it is disgusting. It's almost like we're going to live the AIDS/HIV thing all over again and in truth, there are 4 times more cases of HVC being diagnosed than HIV right now. Look at what happened to those poor souls- AIDS still carries a disgusting stigma which is stupid. Can anyone imagine broadbrushing all lung cancer victims and disparaging them because lung cancer is associated with smoking cigarettes? We know better, don't we? We should know better when it comes to HIV, HVC and even HPV. No one deserves judgment because of a disease, they deserve compassion. > > > > > > > > Hi, everyone I have been with this group a long time do not say > > > much but on > > > > this 1 I have to put in my opinion Docs are human they put > on there > > > pant the > > > > same way we all do I live in northwest Georgia so talk > about people > > > looking > > > > down on you because of stigma I agree with flannergy about > how when > > > you are > > > > young you do things that you probably would not do when you get > > > older I went > > > > thru 3 docs before I found 1 my doc is a Chinese / American he > > > treats the > > > > disease no matter how you contracted it, hang in there > everyone > > > > .............................Jody in GA. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > It's a pleasure having you join in our conversations. Guest guest
I'm not condoning what your doctor did and I do validate your feelings about his comments- I'd just let it go, tho. Sounds like he's fairly thorough and wants to rule everything out that makes us high risk. I don't know if you remember the story about the young black child (15 years old) that died of undetermined causes back in 1969. Cross sections of his tissue was preserved, because of the way he died. When AIDS showed up in the gay community in the early 80s, note was taken and those tissue samples were retrieved from freezers and looked at again. That boy was infected with HIV. I lived in fear of HIV for a long time, I led a very high risk lifestyle and knew that it could be transmitted from not just sex, but needles also. I'm just thanking God that I missed that bullet, because there was a time that I was out in the middle of the freeway, during rush hour, looking to get hit. And....... I was doing that 35-36 years ago. > > No, I didn't overreact. The report states, " I would like to do HIV testing > as well, although I think unlikely, but given her previous substance abuse. Guest guest
Sorry, I took it that you were pissed off. > > Honestly, I'm not very upset about it.
