Guest guest
My son's OCD has very slowly improved over the last 3-4 months of Valtrex, but he also had a really high HHV VI tither. For example, my son is obsessed with the color blue. He loves roller coasters and amusement park rides but if he does not get the blue car (or blue train, etc) refused to ride. He would tantrum and my Dh would have to carry him away if anyone even offered a car other than blue. Now he will ride in any car, but it takes coaxing. He is also willing to play games for the first time without being the color blue. We saw a very temporary reduction in OCD when we did the high dose Vitamin A for high measles tithers, but, they returned one week after we stopped./ So yes, viruses can play a role in OCD. Strep (your DAN can test for PANDAs in the blood and in the gut) is another cause, and there has been some discussion about treatments including PLEO drops and antibiotics. PANDAs were linked in the Journal Pediatrics to both OCD, tics and tourettes. If you have not tested yet, it was a pretty easy blood and stool test and ours was covered by United Healthcare. The other two things people have had success with are GABA and Insolitol. Angrammy said they had success with Insolitol. I am curious about the relationship between her severe OCD and transition issues and virus's. Is this a possibility? Nothing I've done has helped her completely get over the fear of transitioning to a new places/people and also the compulsion to have doors shut and things in their place. Thank you all for any information on this topic. Kathy Hudson
