Guest guest
Hi From Sue, Regarding the large head concern.... My 25 year old Son had a large head as a 10 month old premature baby--- and still does...(His Birth Mom had taken cocaine 2x during her 1st trimester of pregnancy--so they said). While his early diagnosis was "expressive language delay" , "borderline autistic..., and possible ADD... He was treated by age 5 with ADD...with meds. Back then, not many ever heard of ADD as it was called then... But his psychiatrist kept saying he has more than ADD... Since his behaviors were so extreme, he was given an EEG. That turned out to be abnormal... so they ordered an MRI.... And that showed enlarged Ventricles characteristic of Static Hydrocephalus = "commonly called water on the brain" .... Being a static condition--(no fluid is building upon a continual basis) there is no need for a shunt. He currently is living in an apt. (having qualified for Alta Regional Center services), has 24/7 supported living agency.services--but does not need full coverage since he has a partime job as a porter at a bowling center which is a Godsend!... I also work for him partime as an IHSS worker... as I pick him up from work... 3days per week. He is not able to drive... but takes public transportation to work in the morning. His Diagnosis now is Bipolar, ADHD, Static Hydrocehalus, mild Cerebral Palsy, severe LD's, and mild Tourette, (still a Rocker) except when working at the bowling center. He did NOT qualify for Alta Regional Center in his younger years as his IQ was around 71-90 with meds...UNTIL At age 13 he was in a Psych.Hospital (as his bipolar emerged at that age)--and his Dr. had the foresight to do an IQ test without his meds.... and it turned out to be in the 50's... So THAT"S when he started receiving Alta Services...a Godsend.... He is high functioning and became a Great Bowler -his average is 180--despite his midline problem and mild CP. I enrolled him in a youth league when he was 12... and the rest of the kids were 8... He had a wonderful director of bowling who had coaches to help the kids...YABA leagues... I'd highly recommend it to all.... Great self esteem booster and lifelong sport.--and with ... became his ticket to a job...... There is a light at the end of the Tunnel.......!!!!! While is still on meds, the rest of us, 61, 60, and 21, yrs. old.... have swtiched from meds to natural therapy.... for our ADHD, Anxiety/Depression diagnosis.....
