Is Valtrex working for us?

Okay, here is a little bit of history for us... we started using Valtrex on March 17th, so we're on week 8. My son is about 58lbs and we started out using 250mg 3x/day, and slowly upped to the maximum of 500mg 3x/day which is our current level. I honestly don't know whether my son is a responder to it, so I thought I'd post an update and ask you for your thoughts.

Around day 10, he started developing a lot of nasal congestion and cough. This lasted about a week or so, and then subsided. Then, a few days later, another week or so of congestion which also resolved. Initially, he was a bit tired and cranky and a bit more temperamental. His appetite also wasn't as good as usual (he's usually a good eater). He never got a fever, never got a rash, and never had any other types of "regressive" behavior other than the nasal congestion and cough. P.S. the congestion just came back a day ago. He also had a few days where his face would get unusually red or blotchy. In fact, one day he came home from school with what looked like a bad sunburn (almost like someone was slapping his face...I thought about this being fifth disease, but he already had this a few years ago, and didn't think you could get it again). However, he has been more "with it" when he wants to and he is spontaneously using new words and phrases each day, although many times, I'll hear a new word and never hear it again! For example, last week, he was looking through his lunch bag and was naming all of the foods he was bringing for snack and lunch, and when he got to the last one, he said " and last but not least we have an apple!" That was so cute and unexpected, but I've never heard that phrase again! I am thinking about continuing with the Valtrex just because there have been no negatives and a few positive, but I don't know if this is enough to warrant using an Rx for so long. A week ago I also added in Diflucan just because I wanted to rule that out as a variable. I really didn't think he was having a yeast flare up (he is on a really good antiyeast protocol) and was not acting like he had yeast, but I wanted to rule it out. So far, nothing has changed since adding the Diflucan in, so I'm thinking of dropping it and saving it if and when I really need it. The things that are bothering me are as follows:

Many times I read that it is a good sign if your child gets yeast...as it shows that the antiviral is working. So, does that mean that since my child did not get yeast, that the antiviral is not working?

My son had so many of the "soft signs" of viral issues. The most being the vocal scripting...Unfortunately, this has not gotten any better in the past two months.

The other thing is that we had stopped chelating my son about 5 months ago in order to give his body a rest and also because we stopped seeing any weekly progress due to the chelation. Many friends suggested that we needed to address viruses in order to get chelation going again (because viruses can bind metals, etc). About two weeks ago, we started chelating again and once again, we are seeing definite progress following the chelation cycles! So, while this is good, I just don't know if I should continue with the Valtrex, or move on the LDN, OLE, Virastop, or just add them in one by one.

What do you make of this?

Sheryl
