There is only a certain persentage???? So, maybe those who say they have it, are jsut saying they tested for it...I know Larry Hagman, JR from Dallas, had a transplant..due to Hep c and drank again after gettting his liver..he may have even gotten another one???? Guest guest
, I don't think your opinion is an immature one. IMO we all have some responsibility to be role-models to others. Whether it be about how we behave whilst on treatment or in life in general. But then, we are talking about Pammy aren't we? She doens't exactly have a spotless reputation does she? As far as organ transplantation goes. I'm not so sure about America but I would imagine it would be similar world wide. Here in Australia, just because you happen to be at the top of the transplant list, doesn't mean you automatically get the next available organ. There are a lot of factors involved includeing blood type, weight, height, sex, (believe it or not) and just how sick you are. Believe it or not you can be too sick for transplant. It seems that one of the big factors is that the donated organ goes into a similar body type as the one it came from. Just enter the phrase - pre-transplant assessment - into a search engine and you'll see how strict they are with their criteria for transplant recipients. Guest guest
Ahh, anne, this helps. It's good to see that one can't get liver transplants as easily as one can get other sorts of transplants (or implants, rather). I suppose that I will just expend my ranting energy on something positive, looks like I don't have to worry about ol' Pammy cutting in front of the rest of us in the liver line! > > > Just enter the phrase - pre-transplant assessment - into a search engine and > you'll see how strict they are with their criteria for transplant > recipients. > > Luv > anne >

Guest guest
That's very sweet! My ex-husband offered me a piece of his liver with fava beans and a nice chianti. He must think he's Hannibal Lechter. But seriously, wouldn't that be great? I do think that to a degree it's possible, because I read someplace that you can get a part of a relative's liver and have a better chance of it not being rejected by your body. > All, to get my mind off yesterday's biopsy results panic attack (by > the way, still haven't heard from the dr. yet so I will be taking > myself over to their office forthwith, pursuant to everyone's advice, > TYVM), I have this rant: > > The most (or one of the most)stupid and insane thing a hepper can do > is drink alcohol, right? Guest guest
Yes Sheena,, the split the liver and the person getting the tp gets the biggest portion and both of them will grow to normal size within about 6 months or less,, its amazing! Yes, money talks but thats NOT how its supposed to work,, people are put on the list according to meld scores and their physical status,, the most critical get the first shot if they are a match medically.. sometimes slips do happen ,, but not often.. Those with money can easily go abroad to get organs and many do that... Guest guest
The liver only needs a small portion of cells in order to regenerate , so in the living donor program they take a small section of liver from the live donor and give it to the recipient . Within a short time the donor's liver heals back to a normal size and the recipients portion grows also . Re: Hep C Drinkers - New Rant Today That's very sweet! Guest guest
Well, it's good to know that a live donor can actually be used if it comes to that, and let's hope it doesn't for any.. Guest guest
I'M SORRY TO SAY THIS BUT I HAVE EMPATHY FOR ANYONE WHO HAS GOTTEN THIS DISEASE. THIS DISEASE IS NOT AN INDITEMENT ABOUT LIFESTYLE CHOICES. THE OTHER THING IS THAT NO ONE HAS MENTIONED IF SHE HAS GONE THRU TX, BEEN CLEARED ECT. I WOULD ALSO VENTURE TO SAY THAT A PERSON IN THE "BIZ" HAS GOT A MORE HECTIC SCHEDUALE THAN MOST OF US COULD KEEP UP WITH. GIVE AMERICA'S BARBY DOLL A BREAK!!!! Guest guest
If you are that concerned re Pam , can you write her your feelings? She must have a website. That might get her attention if fans are writing in with concerns of how she is behaving despite her illness. When a celebrity acts as a spokesperson for a disease, they have to also take on the responsibility of behaving in a manner to not bring negative attention to that disease.(and in the case of Hep C, more negative attention) On the other hand it is possible that she isn't drinking real vodka and champagne. You can't believe everything you read. But I think she deserves to defend herself and you may feel better if you focus your anger constructively and have a possible positive outcome. I'm not saying you don't deserve to rant, we all need that, but if it is eating you up, then this could be a solution. You will feel better for going to the source and she may hear your concerns. Guest guest
You know, she might not know too. The Dr I had about 5 years ago told me I never needed to do anything about my Hep C and that I was so healthy I could have an occaional drink once in awhile if I wanted without any harm coming to me. What an idiot, luckily I didn't listen to him and have a new Dr now who was appauled at what this other Dr told me. Guest guest
Yes, IF you have a medical match and both are willing and your liver is bad enough to need the tp, yes, but you have to find a hosp that does the live orthotic liver tp.. not all centers do themSheena <mom4possums2002@...> wrote: Well, it's good to know that a live donor can actually be used if it comes to that, and let's hope it doesn't for any.. So, are you saying if you have a relative that's a match, and willing, (not that I do) you can then bypass the Transplant List? Thanks, ever learning here, Sheena Jackie on <redjaxjm > wrote: Yes Sheena,, the split the liver and the person getting the tp gets the biggest portion and both of them will grow to normal size within about 6 months or less,, its amazing! Yes, money talks but thats NOT how its supposed to work,, people are put on the list according to meld scores and their physical status,, the most critical get the first shot if they are a match medically.. sometimes slips do happen ,, but not often.. Those with money can easily go abroad to get organs and many do that... Speaking of which, I don't know much about transplant, someone mentioned that you only need "a piece" of a liver, is that true? My husband, sweetie that he is offered me as much as I needed, I didn't shake his world further by telling him that I didn't think it worked quite that easily, but I really know little about the subject.. Guest guest
I dont know , but with all the resources available to someone with her means I find it hard to believe that she doesnt know that drinking is bad for her . And she did go through the treatment , as far as clearing I thought she had and that is all the more reason she shouldn't be drinkin. I don't want someone like her to be an example for the world about us patients who have hep c . Sorry but starlet's like her give our disease a bad name Re: Hep C Drinkers - New Rant Today I'M SORRY TO SAY THIS BUT I HAVE EMPATHY FOR ANYONE WHO HAS GOTTEN THIS DISEASE. SHE IS ONE OF US. > All, to get my mind off yesterday's biopsy results panic attack (by > the way, still haven't heard from the dr. yet so I will be taking > myself over to their office forthwith, pursuant to everyone's advice, > TYVM), I have this rant:> > The most (or one of the most)stupid and insane thing a hepper can do > is drink alcohol, right? Guest guest
I wouldn't exactly call myself a fan although I do care about people, and I would consider Naomi Judd a better spokesperson and role model (plus having been her neighbor years ago in TN, I can attest that she is a genuinely nice person!). I suppose I singled Pam out because she is so visible these days, to put across the point that it doesn't seem fair that some can take this disease's effects on the body seriously, and some continue to abuse their bodies (speculating about Pammy here as an example), and yet there is only one transplant list for all. In any case, anne and others shared their knowledge about how the transplant list really works, and I did some futher research, so I am pretty edified by now. Unfortunately, I did learn yesterday that there are several other celebrities (I won't mention names lest I offend anyone) who have had liver transplants and still drink. Very sad and I pray that they, and others would seek help. > > If you are that concerned re Pam , can you write her your feelings? Guest guest
Personally I don't pay any attention to the actions or opinions of 'celebrities'. I don't even watch TV : ) I wish wellness in body and mind to all, but who knows why our spirits make the choices they make in this life?
