In my opinion anyone who misdiagnosis ASD for schizophrenia is a total quack! My father is 51 years old and has been diagnosed since he was 28 with schizophrenia.My son is 10 and has asperger syndrome. I know from living around the two of them for years that there are very few similarities. I guess the echoing may be could be percieved as a child talking to someone who is not there. The only one who mistaked it with my son was the school principal. I can see how someone who has never been around people with both disorders could get them confused,but not a doctor who is trained to diagnose these disorders on a daily basis. is a neurological condition. Anyway, yes, too bad that many get these confused, and doctors much also when they diagnosis as well. I know that doctors have asked my son if he hears voices and see things that are not there. That is a way to rule out other disorders. My son does not, so I was always sure he is not schizophrenic. in IL
