Guest guest
Hi Bruce, My son just turned four years old and has huge oral sensory issues so I thought swallowing pills would never happen. Last time we took him to the ENT, his tonsils were a 4+ (scale 0-4) so there isn't much room back there for things to go down anyway. Anyway, I had a friend who taught her 3yr old to swallow pills using lauricidin (little pellets). My son's DAN wanted him on lauridicin prior to antivirals so I started with just a pellet of laurcidin three times a day (put it in a little paper cup and let it slide down and chase it w/ juice - the only time a day he gets anything other than water) and quickly worked up to 1/2 scoup 3xday. After that I added his smallest supplement and so on. After a few weeks he can now swallow 1/2 scoup of lauicidin, 1/2 valtrex, and two other small/medium pills at the same time. He takes a TON of stuff and some are quite large, so I don't know how far we will get. I have been impressed that he will do any of them! I give him his last dose of valtrex prior to bed but once he gets more comfortable with this, I may wake him to give it when I do his LDN. hope this helps. > > Our ASD son is 5 1/2 years old (70 lbs) and we have been doing biomedical for three years without much luck. We started with GFCF diet and have been doing SCD for about the last eight months. We started Diflucan (50mg) two weeks prior to Valtrex and then began Valtrex (500mg 2x a day) about two week ago. Our son has broke out in small rash near his mouth, which I hope is a good sign, but no apparent gains (or regressions) yet. > > First our son doesn't swallow pills, so usually we crush them and put them in a drink with other supplements, vitamins, etc. The Valtrex makes the drink distasteful and he won't drink it. Instead, we put it in applesauce with amino acid supplements (which are also distasteful) and have him eat the spoonful of applesauce, with a struggle, and then chase it with a bite of banana. Is there a better way? > > Second, Stan I know you think that three doses (250mg) per day, eight hours apart is much better than twice a day. We would like to do this, even at a lower overall daily dose (750mg vs 1000mg). How do we give it to him every eight hours, without waking him up to give him the third dose? Also, he is in school during the day, how do we give him the second dose? > > > --------------------------------- > Groups are talking. We're listening. Guest guest
We did it at meals, which is spread correctly for the time he is awake rather than ever 8 hours. I wouldn't wake your child. - Stan > > Our ASD son is 5 1/2 years old (70 lbs) and we have been doing biomedical for three years without much luck.
