Guest guest
I noticed that many people have been concerned about sending their children to public school. Some people are able to home school and find that effective. As for myself we have charter schools in Colorado & since no one else mentioned that I wondered if other states had them. It is a public school except it usually uses different teaching methods or has a specialty such as art or science. The one my girls are going to go to this fall uses the Paragon teaching method. They incorporate the same theme throughout all the subjects. They do the core classes in the morning which is good for because her attention span is at its best. Then all the electives are in the afternoon. They wear uniforms at this school which I am grateful for even though when I was a kid at Catholic school I hated them. Then again they were green plaid. Does anyone else have this option available to them? Just wondering. E. Colorado
Guest guest
Hi, Lissa, We have Charter Schools in Philadelphia. I have one son who has been going to one, with the environment as the theme (it is located in a nature education center). My 2nd son, the one who has just been diagnosed with aspergers, starts kindergarten there in the fall. I am concerned for the long haul, 'cuz the charter schools won't have the resources of a regular public school, though the Philly public schools in general concern me, to put it mildly. For this year, though I think it will work. The kindergarten teacher is super structured and warns of transitions and other little things that Jonah needs, basically because it seems to help children with any issues with maturity or anxiety, or almost any other concern. Also, our local agency is really hopping, and Jonah will have some social skills groups or similar help through the summer. Fortunately, Jonah's presentation of AS is very mild, so I don't really know yet what he will need & what he won't. That is why I've joined - to learn from all of you! thanks so much- barb wood
