As has gotten older, more has been expected of him. The teens grow up, they mature and they act different, but yet he, at 17, still has some immaturity and emotional immaturity and other behaviors, that are socially behind! I have a feeling that the older my son got, the more that he stood out from the others, as people would see his behaviors and expect that he would act more grown up. Also, his peers expect him to act more mature. I believe that the older our kids with ASpergers get, the more that they STICK OUT. It has been rough. However, I believe that as he becomes a young adult, he is getting more mature. I have worked jobs with kids who are 24-25-26, 27. They are young, I could be their mom. I am 46. However, they do NOT always seem that young, because as we are all adults, it is rough to tell how old we are. I could maybe pass for in my 30s. So, who knows. I think once my son gets out of high school and into college and then a career, things will be different. in IL
